School Board Recognition

Celebrating Success! Our FJUHSD Arts Awards recipients and CIF Wrestling Qualifiers were honored at the recent school board meeting. Congratulations to all our talented students for their outstanding achievements!

Culinary & Hospitality Academy

Our Restaurant seniors were invited by the "CRF" California Restaurant Foundation to take part in the Experience Hospitality Day. We were guests at the Galardi Group Inc. Wienerschnitzel HQ in Irvine where we received 1ts class treatment. We had a personal meeting with the executive board which included a presentation by each member where they shared their career path and current job responsibilities. Executive members included the CEO J.R. Galardi, the son of the founder, the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Development Officer, and a company lawyer. After the presentation, we toured the headquarters and were served lunch. Each student also received a merchandise goodie bag.

Our academy was also featured in the LA Times this week! A huge thank you to Mr. Schwarz-Cole and Ms. Shinault for their incredible support and for organizing such an enriching field trip for our students.

Agriculture Academy

Abbey Lucey was elected as Southern Region FFA Vice President, representing the Orange Section. We are so proud of her accomplishments and that she is expanding her leadership skills to higher levels of California FFA.

Also, The following students received their State FFA Degree this year. Mary "MG" Weber, Elianna Sosa, and Abigail Lucey. The state FFA degree is the highest degree of membership awarded by the state and is only earned by 3% of FFA members statewide. Students must earn $1000 and have invested 500 hours into their ag projects, have community service hours, and have participated in FFA events. Congratulations!

Baseball

Our Baseball team had a great week sweeping Sunny Hills in back-to-back days of games. The TRIBE has clinched the Fullerton City Championship by beating both Sunny Hills and Troy in all four games. The boys are now 4-0 in Freeway League play.

The TRIBE fell short in the first game this week against a really good Sonora team. Coach Hill and the boys are working to bounce back on the winning track and take a win from Sonora in Friday’s game being held on FUHS home field.

Softball

Tribe Varsity Softball extended their winning streak with a dominant 10-1 victory over Buena Park! Sophomore pitcher Malaya Majam-Finch tossed two scoreless innings, striking out three and not allowing a single hit. She was just as impressive at the plate, going 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs and smashing two doubles!

Senior Tianna Salcido came in relief and earned the win with three stellar innings. She struck out four batters and didn't surrender a single hit or earned run. The Tribe's offense exploded as senior Zoey Bautista went 2 for 2 with two runs scored. Freshman Sofia Holton also had a perfect day at the plate, going 2 for 2 with a run scored and a stolen base. Senior Maiah Rodgriguez, Bautista, and sophomores Hayley Brock and Melia Vera all contributed with clutch singles and runs scored to seal the win for the Tribe!

Tribe Softball will host cross-town rivals Troy today at 3:30pm and will travel to Brea Olinda for an away game on Saturday at 10am. Come out and support your Tribe! In today’s Troy game, the TRIBE came out with a 15-0 victory and are now 16-7 overall and 6-0 in Freeway League Play.

Boys Volleyball

The boys went 1-1 this week, losing a tough one at Sunny Hills. The boys won the first set 26-24, but Sunny Hills came back to win the next 3 sets to take the match 3-1. In the 4th set, the boys were down by a large margin, and tried to fight their way back, but lost the set 25-22. On Thursday, we honored our seniors for their contribution to our program. Afterwards, our boys beat Sonora 3-1 to cap out a celebratory night. Thank you to Rowan Yeo and Hyunmin Kim for their 4 years of playing varsity as they were part of the original athletes to start and built our program around. Also thank you to Jack Castellanos for his 3 years, Jude Ruiz and Dallas Padron for their 2 years, and Cameron Hird for his year of contribution to our program. The boys are currently 7-1 in league (tied for first place with Sunny Hills) with 2 games left, and 18-8 overall, 4th place in our CIF SS division for the 3rd straight week now.. Both games are on the road. Next up will be the end of the year tournament on Saturday at Garden Grove to prep up for the playoffs, and La Habra on Monday and Buena Park on Wednesday. Come out and support our boys.

Track and Field

Boys varsity track, led by top scoring seniors Alejandro Hernandez and DJ Cobbs, had an outstanding showing Wednesday in our final Freeway League meet against La Habra and Sunny Hills. Hernandez and Cobbs dominated in their respective events, helping the team to secure another win. Other notable performances were from junior Jack Golla in the 1600 meters and 800 meters, junior Heikki Kohlenberger in the 400 meters, senior Nathan Karcher in the 800 meters, sophomores Dylan Cobbs and Anthony Benedetto in the 300 meter hurdles, and sophomore Jude Banda in the 3200 meters. Junior Marcos Lerma had a huge PR in the discus throw with 35.56 meters.

Girls Varsity won against La Habra with a score of 79 to 46 and Sunny Hills with a final score of 67.5 to 52.5. In the 1600 Morgan McAndrew placed first followed by Reagan Glidewell who placed 5th. Senior Makayla Felismino placed third in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 18.85 and Melina Sibal placed 2nd in the 100 with an outstanding time of 12.91. In the girls’ Frosh/Soph 800 Sofia Tabbal and Keely Gallagher went 1st and 2nd. During the 4x100 the girls took out both La Habra teams and got an overall time of 52.43, and the girl’s 4x400 took first with a time of 4:19. Morgan McAndrew and Alexa Lopez finished close together in the 800, followed by the 300 hurdles where Alexa Lopez took first. Josephine Lee took out the competition and finished first in the Frosh/Soph triple jump, with Makayla Felismino taking third in varsity. Lastly, Mahlia Jordan placed second in Discus with a mark of 93’9”.

Select members of the team will compete at the Orange County Championships on Saturday morning, followed by our annual Distance Carnival Saturday evening. Both teams are 4-1 heading into league finals. A win will earn us the title of co-champs!

Tennis

Fullerton falls to Sunny Hills, 5-13. Bright spot of the day is from the top player of Fullerton, Tim Chung, who won 2 of 3 sets. Tim lost to Sunny's number 1 is a close set, losing in the tiebreaker 3-7. Ben Villalobos and Diego Gomez scored 1 point each for the team. The doubles team of William McWatters and Nathan Bek also scored 1 point for the team. Next up, we will be at home against Sonora High School.

Fullerton had a great match against Sonora, winning 18-0. Every player on the team played well, but a special shout out goes to first year player, Jonas Baesel. Jonas was called upon to play in the starting lineup in singles for the first time this season, and he won all three sets played, completing his first match sweep. Way to go, Jonas!
