Celebrations

Thank you ASB

Assistant Principal, Danny Ma had the opportunity to celebrate our new ASB Director, Mrs. Brooke Kerr, and our amazing ASB President Morgan McAndrews at our school board meeting last Tuesday! We have had a great start to the school year with great events and the promise of an amazing Homecoming Weekend! Thank you both for your leadership!

B E A S T

The BEAST Biological Arts students "MaMa-Off" winners were judged by South African SFX Artist Mathew Howard-Tripp, the creator of the rigid collodion scars for the character MaMa in the 2015 film Dredd, and the winners were Group 5!

Mr. Howard-Tripp said the groups entry achieved "some amazing depth", with the left cheek scar especially, with the light falling on the cheek making a "great highlight and shadow that breaks up the planes of the face". He also said "their entry managed to capture the essence of the mama makeup concept most effectively while making the best use of rigid collodion."

He encouraged all students to stay committed to their craft to achieve success! Great job to everyone!

Seven lucky BEAST students were given an exclusive chance to head backstage at Knott's Scary Farm recently to meet the amazing group of makeup artists that work to create the "scareactors" for this fun and now historical event (Fifty years of Fears!) Students learned many tips and tricks of the trade from these experienced professionals, and even got a chance to pose with the Green Witch of Calico herself - Sarah Marshall! Learning was never so cool - and scary too! Thank you Bill Meier and everyone at Knott's for this great opportunity!

Football:

We celebrated Senior Night last Friday before football took the field to face off against cross-town rivals, Sunny Hills High School. Tribe football had the lead through the first half and 3rd quarter. Unfortunately, Sunny Hills came back to win 28-27. Tonight Tribe football takes on the Raiders of Sonora HS at La Habra HS.

Cheer and Song:

Our Varsity squads celebrated their senior night at our home game this past Friday at Fullerton Stadium! It was a close game full of lots of excitement. We loved performing at halftime and showcasing our skills, moves, stunts, and SENIORS!

Also, congratulations to the 34 athletes who made the 2024 STUNT team!

Tennis:

Wow! What a day for FUHS Girls Varsity Tennis! In fact, what a season for the girls! First they defeated Troy last Thursday, and then they went to first place Sunny Hills HS and came home victorious, winning 10-8! This team is doing something special this year, able to beat the top two teams in the league.

Abigail Kelly showed us why she is the #1 singles player on this team, beating SHHS’s #2 player. After being down 1-4, Abigail refocused and stormed back to take the set 7-5, hitting great serves, steady groundstrokes and a fierce competitiveness from within. It was a great win for Abigail, winning 2 of 3 sets (0-6, 7-5, 6-2) to give the team a chance to win the match. Kate Luengo went 1-1 (3-6, 6-2), despite suffering a leg injury, she battled on to win a crucial point for the team. Hailey Kwok, the team’s #3 singles player, did what was expected of her, defeating Sunny’s #3 and giving the team yet another crucial point. The singles crew did what was expected from the coach, scoring 4 points for the team.

Last time Fullerton met Sunny, the doubles didn’t fare well at all. But today was a different story. #1 doubles team of Christina Sfatcu and Rebecca Balarie continued their dominance of the league, winning their 94, 95 and 96 sets, approaching 100 in the next couple of matches (6-3, 6-2, 6-0). The big pleasant surprise was the play of #2 doubles team of Nicole White and Bonnie Lynch (6-3, 6-4, 6-1). Winning all three sets and winning the clinching point to seal the match.

This win guaranteed the team soul 2nd place in the league. And if Troy beats Sunny next week, Fullerton will end up in 1st place tie with Sunny and Troy. Normally I would never say this but, let’s go Troy!

As a coach, I am very proud of this group of young ladies and how they came together as a team this season! Go Tribes!!!

FUHS Girls Varsity had a great day beating Sonora HS 16-2. The singles crew of Abigail Kelly (6-0, 6-0, 6-0), Kate Luengo (7-5, 6-1, 6-1) and Hailey Kwok (6-1, 6-0, 6-0) completed a clean sweep, winning all nine sets played.

Doubles #2 Nicole White and Bonnie Lynch (6-1, 2-6, 6-0) and #3 doubles Francine Bondoc and Amber Elomina (6-1, 0-6, 6-2) contributed 4 points to the team. #1 doubles Rebecca Balarie and Christina Sfatcu (6-0, 6-1, 6-1) won all three of their sets played, bringing their total two year wins to 99. They will break the 100 mark next Monday against La Habra HS. Such an amazing feat!

Cross Country:

This past weekend select runners of the cross country team traveled to Fresno to participate in the 44th Asics Clovis Invitational. The first race kicked off at 7:15 am with four girls representing girls varsity. Morgan McAndrew led the way coming in 28th place out of 216 runners with a time of 19:40. She was supported by Reagan Glidewell (20:46), Ella Casto (21:51), and Olivia Wilder (23:21). Boys varsity raced next with Alejandro coming in first for Fullerton and 24th out of 235 runners with a time of 16:20. He was closely followed by Jack Golla (16:23), Jude Banda (17:44), Ryan Leitner (17:49), and Nathan Karcher (18:10). The boys JV race followed and was led by freshman, Bo Sanderson, with a time of (19:19) and followed by freshman, Henry Burns (19:21). They were supported by Drake Bromley (19:28), Leandro Nguyen (19:54), and Blake Miyasato (20:13). The final race for Fullerton was frosh-soph girls and led by sophomore, Natalie Vasquez, with a time of 24:21. She was supported by Vinny Suarez-Villalvazo (25:57), Sofia Botimer (26:29), Kendall Duncan (28:25), and Samantha Scopis (31:32). The team enjoyed previewing the state course and spending time bonding with one another. They will compete again at the Orange County Championships on the morning of October 14.

Girls Golf:

The girls had an amazing week! They had two victories this week, which resulted in them finishing top 3 in the league with a record of 5-5 for this season. Freshman Olivia Woo led the team and was the medalist for both games.  Now they will play on Monday in the league finals.

Girls Volleyball:

The girls went 1-1 this week, losing to La Habra on Monday and beating Buena Park on Wednesday. Even though the girls were eliminated from playoff contention last Thursday after our lost to Sonora, they continued to fight for every point during these last 2 games. Thanks to all our seniors for giving their all in our program over the past 4 years. Lots of growth not only on the court, but also off the court. The returning players are eager and looking forward to the offseason to prepare for next year. The Frosh went 2-0 and JV went 1-1 this week.

Boys Water Polo:

Boys JV started us off going 2 for 2 in the Ayala JV Tournament, getting us wins against Glendora and Great Oak. Unfortunately, they lost to Damien and Troy by one point. Tuesday the teams headed to Valencia High School. Our man with a plan, Brandon Fan scored an amazing 5 goals. Owen Coloumbe showed how it's done with 3 goals. Did you hear, that Justin Pearson scored 2 goals? Josh Reed planted the seed with 1 goal. We didn't mess up because Josiah Jessup had 8 huge blocks. All this made history with a Victory of 11-7. Then on Wednesday, we had a league match against La Habra. Justin Pearson and Brandon Fan had 3 goals. Owen Coloumbe and Joshua Reed each had one goal. Josiah Jessup with 7 blocks. Sadly this was not enough as La Habra won 13-8. All is not lost though as we will get a chance at a rematch.
