Hello Fullerton Families!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break with family and friends! We are in the home stretch! Winter Break is around the corner along with the end of the semester.

We have some exciting news coming from our BEAST Program! On Thursday evening, we were awarded our 11th Golden Bell from the CA School Boards Association for our BEAST Program and its excellence in Career Technical Education. Congratulations and Thank you to our amazing teachers, Mr. Scott Hudson and Mr. Jim Pitochelli for their amazing work and dedication to this program. They have developed BEAST into a premier program giving our students great opportunities! We couldn't be more proud of their work and excited for even more things to come!

We are also very proud of the fact that Michael Despars, our amazing Theater Teacher has been awarded a Distinguished Career Award from the Orange County Music and Arts Association! Our Academy of the Arts is truly one of a kind and Mr. Despars is helping lead the way! Go Tribe!

Fun Activities

AVID College Fun!

AVID students interested in USC walked the halls of their campus to learn more about the diverse courses offered at this leading private research university. AVID Students were able to act like college students for a day by having lunch in their campus dining halls and walking through their bookstore. Afterward, AVID toured FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) and learned about its technology-driven education that cultivates student creativity.  Thank you AVID for getting our students out there and getting them ready to go to college!

Girls Soccer:

Girl’s Soccer played their first game vs Chino Hills on Thursday. The team put forth a great effort in a 2-0 defeat. Chino scored 2 goals in the first 20:00 minutes of the game then FUHS settled down and played tough and kept them scoreless.

Boys Basketball:

Boys Basketball started first-round pool play in the Loara Pool Play Tournament Tuesday 11/29. They opened up with a win over Costa Mesa 63-49 followed up by a second-round win on Thursday over California HS 84-59. They play Dana Hills in the semi-final round on Friday 12/2 at 6pm at Loara HS.

The basketball program wrapped up its Rumble For Rosecrans Toy Drive last week as all of the donations will be donated to Pathways of Hope in Fullerton. Thank you to all the players and families who donated. Finally, the varsity team collaborated with the FUHS dance team to perform a fun routine at our winter assembly on Friday. Thank you to Mrs. Obelander and the dance team who choreographed the routine.

Girls Water Polo:

Our girls team started off the week strong, blowing La Mirada High school out of the water with a 17-4 win. On Wednesday both the JV and Varsity team faced off against Corona Centennial. Starting off with the varsity team the girls had a pretty even match through the game, after a tough game the varsity team did fall short with a 7-4 loss.

Next up the JV team played, after a tough fight the JV team lost 10-7. On Thursday the JV team had their first league game against Sunny Hills High School. Once again the girls did fight hard through all 4 quarters but ended up with a 6-2 loss. The girls are back to practice this week for an upcoming tournament next week and a few games throughout the week.

Wrestling:

The Wrestlers had a great week of practice, and had their picture day on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Boys Varsity, JV, and Girls team traveled to Cal High for a preseason dual. We went 3 for 3, coming out with wins for all 3 levels. Girls started the day with a 42-18 win - they were led by Briana Izquerido getting the pin in the first period. Next, JV squeezed out a close one, getting a 30-27 win - they were led by Michael Hernandez, Chris Osborn, and Henry Pillon all getting 1st period pins. The Varsity finished off the day with a 54-24 win - they were led by Dylan Cobbs, Isaac Hurtado, Matthew Martinez, Emilio Castaneda, DJ Cobbs, and Juan Ramirez, all getting pins in their matches. On Saturday the Frosh/Soph boys travel to Capo Valley HS for a tournament, and the entire program is gearing up for their first league dual on Wednesday, 12/07, to face off against Sunny Hills.
