Boys Basketball:

The boys varsity team returned from their trip to Arizona that they took right after the Christmas holiday. It was a great experience as they competed in the Winter Hoops Shootout at Cactus High School in Glendale, AZ. They also participated in team-building activities and mindset training. The varsity is currently 1-3 in the very tough Freeway League. They take on Buena Park on Friday at home. The JV and Freshman teams both went 3-1 in their holiday tournaments over break.

Girls Basketball:

Girls basketball sits at 13-9 with 2 weeks left on the season. They fought hard against La Habra on Tuesday but fell short of a victory. They host Buena Park on Friday night to close out the week. They have a busy upcoming week as they will host Troy on Monday. Lady Tribe will also travel to Sunny Hills on Wednesday and play at 5:30. To end the week, it will be our senior night as they will host Sonora on Friday at 5:30. Come out and celebrate our seniors!

Cheer, Song, and STUNT

Back to school for our cheer, STUNT, and song teams! Our JV Cheer and Varsity Cheer and Song programs have been attending basketball games to kick off January and support our basketball programs. We just performed at open house on Thursday, January 18 and we’re very excited to promote our two programs!

Our cheer team is busy supporting our basketball program while simultaneously in preseason mode for our second season of STUNT! On January 13th at the 2024 NCAA Convention in Phoenix, AZ, the Division III membership elevated STUNT to NCAA emerging sport status. With the previous passage by Divisions I and II, STUNT is now an emerging sport across all divisions of the NCAA.

Boys Soccer:

Boys soccer is five games into the league. Our record is two wins and three losses. We have had several injuries on our team. However, we are not using that as an excuse for losses. We are focused and ready to play Troy today at home. We are confident that we will be in the playoffs. We look forward to the next five games these will be the last games in the freeway league. We are sad to see the freeway league dissolve, but we are anxious to move on and face new competition. We will set up some freeway league teams for next year’s preseason. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We want to finish strong in the freeway league and get ready for the playoffs. Next week we face sunny hills, and La Habra go tribe.

Girls Soccer:

Girls soccer is making a run for a top 3 in Freeway League. The Tribe enters our second round of the league in 4th after beating Sonora 1-0 in an intense match that went into double overtime. A banger goal from Sophomore Ava Torres gave Fullerton Union the Victory in the 98th minute. Next was a tough loss to first-place La Habra, then the Tribe returned Tuesday to face off against Buena Park. Both levels delivered, bringing home two big wins for FUHS. JV 1-0 with a goal by sophomore Melina Ramos. Varsity brought us another action-packed match, ending 1-1 in regulation with a goal from Sophomore Marley Keller. Back to double overtime, again It was all Marley Keller with the deciding goal in the 105th minute to give Fullerton Varsity the win 2-1 over Buena Park. Next up Troy HS on Friday. GoTribe

Girls Water Polo:

Girls polo has had an exciting week with highs and lows. The low was a loss to La Habra but being strong enough to correct the mistakes made and stopping them from scoring in the second half. With a high of winning to Sonora 15-5, our ladies did the tribe proud showing off their advanced techniques. Elizabeth Timmerman made it hot with her slap shots. In set Olivia Brazo got the clout with her marvelous step out. Morgan McAndrew made a scene like a speeding queen as she flew past her defenders to the goal. For 5-meter penalty shots, we always use Sofia Crail because we know she will not fail. As a whole our team is doing great things and we look forward to the upcoming league carousel and Ayala tournament.

Wrestling:

This week our Boys and Girls Wrestling team had a home dual against the very tough La Habra High School on Wednesday night. Our wrestling teams showcased their prowess on the mat, securing victories that have brought both the boys and girls teams closer to their CIF goals.

The girls' team, led by standout performances from Annemarie Ramirez(110) and Izabella Luna (145), dominated their opponents with a resounding 66-6 win. Annemarie and Izabella set the tone with impressive pins, propelling the team to an undefeated 4-0 record for the season. With this momentum, the girls are now in an excellent position to clinch their first-ever league title.

On the boys' side, the competition was fierce, but we emerged victorious with a final score of 45-29. Underclassmen Jonah Moreno (106) and Dylan Cobbs (112) delivered stellar performances, setting the stage for success. Captain Julian Rodela (120) showcased leadership with a crucial win.

The turning point in the match came with pivotal pins from Adrian Zavala (138) and Captain Landon McGill (157). These decisive victories, coupled with strong performances from upper weights DJ Cobbs (190), Juan Ramirez (215), and Christian Godinez(285), sealed the deal for the boys' team, bringing their season record to an impressive 3-1.

The wrestling teams are undoubtedly on fire this season, with both the girls and boys demonstrating skill, determination, and a winning spirit. As they continue to forge ahead, eyes are set on the coveted league title, marking what could be a historic achievement for these talented athletes.
