Hello Fullerton Families!

We had a great week at Fullerton Union! I hope everyone stays safe and as dry as possible this weekend!

National FFA Week

This past week Fullerton High School FFA celebrated National FFA Week. The week began with a member lunch at the farm, an ag education day on Wednesday, Tri Tip Drive-thru on Thursday, and Ice Skating Friday night with members of the Orange FFA Section (County FFA members). It was a time for members to reflect on the history of FFA and the importance of FFA and agriculture in our community, county, state, and nation. Our FFA program began in 1941 with 14 members. It was the first program in our school district. We currently have over 300 students in the program. Many alumni have gone on to pursue degrees and careers in the agriculture industry. We are proud to have veterinarians, ag business executives, dog groomers/trainers, vet techs, agriculture teachers, farmers, ranchers, and entrepreneurs on our alumni roster.

FFA provides the next generation of leaders who will change the world. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

We are proud to have a thriving program right in the center of our city.

Quotes from some of our student leadership team:

"FFA is a welcoming environment, where everyone is welcome." - Abbey Lucey

"FFA has had a tremendous impact on my high school experience. I have not only learned more about myself and others but I also was given the opportunity to grow as a leader and meet new people. My friends and peers have pushed me to be the best that I can be each and every single while also teaching me lessons along the way." - MG Weber

'FFA has taught me self-efficiency, time management skills, leadership skills, and responsibility" - Grace Allen

"FFA has taught me leadership skills, livestock skills, and organizational skills. I have become more responsible and feel like I am contributing to my community through ag education and my entrepreneurial projects." - Macy Alcott

Activities

Speech and Debate

The Fullerton Union Speech and Debate team traveled to UC Berkeley this past weekend and competed at the Cal Invitational. We brought 15 students 3 judges/chaperones and the head coach. Once again Mackenzie Mauldin and Joshua Lee broke to the top 64 competitors in a field of 193 teams. This trip was an investment in the future of the team. We brought a majority of 9th and 10th graders. They are being exposed to the "big time" as something to strive for. We also took side trips to San Francisco on the limited free time we had.

Visit to Beechwood

Beechwood 3rd graders are working on a "Kindness and Making a Change in the World Project" and they invited a couple of members from our Boys' Soccer team to speak to them about a world of possibilities! Thank you, Coach Shumaker, Declan Campbell, and Abdul Umar for representing us!

Fullerton Softball went 4-0 this past week defeating Trabuco Hills, Long Beach Wilson, Katella and El Dorado. This brings our season record to 7-1. This past weekend in the Savanna Classic against Trabuco Hills and Wilson some highlights included: Andrea Montes De Oca (21-Freshman) with 2 home runs, Malaya Majam-Finch (11-Freshman) with a gem in the circle against Trabuco Hills and a homerun at the plate. Tuesday against Katella, Fullerton scored 12 runs to mercy the Knights 12-1. Analise Barrios (27-Freshman) got the win for the Tribe. Charlotte Edwards (00-Sophomore) hit a 3 run homerun. On Wednesday the Tribe traveled to El Dorado where they have not won in many years. Fullerton won a highly contested contest 4-2, never trailing in the game. Finch again was on the rubber for Fullerton, pitching all seven innings, only allowing 5 hits and striking out 11. She also hit her second homerun of the season in the first inning. Big 2-out RBI hits were recorded by Emma Thorson (33-Sophomore) and Ava Paquin (24-Junior).  Fullerton has 4 more games next week all at home. Tuesday 3:15pm versus Calvary Chapel, Thursday 3:15pm versus Brea Olinda, Saturday Doubleheader versus Segerstrom(9am) and Warren(1pm). Roll Tribe!

Baseball

Baseball is off to an excellent start to the season! Our record is 4-1, with 9-0 shutout against Milikan and Corona del Mar and a combined no-hitter against Loara. We fought hard against Villa Park and suffered a 4-3 loss against a team that is ranked third in the state. Some player highlights include: in hitting we celebrate our home run hitters Canor Sunderland and Niko Savage team leader in batting average is George Papadatos. Our Pitching team leaders are George Papadatos and Matthew Carbaja with both players having an ERA of Zero. This year's team has wonderful chemistry. They win together as well as facing difficult opponents together. It will be an amazing season!

Boys Volleyball

The boys started off the season strong going 2-1. In the opening match, the boys dominated Magnolia in the first 2 sets, but unfortunately could not close out the game and lost the last 3 sets to lose 2-3. The boys quickly forgot about that match, and turned things around by sweeping Saddleback 3-0, and Anaheim 3-0over the next 2 nights. Hyunmin Kim directed the offense, leading the team in assists, while Rowan Yeo lead the defense with some stellar plays in covering, digging, and ball control. Price Sanders and Jack Castellanos also played some solid defense on the opposite side of Rowan. Attacks came from all directions, lead by Johnny Leonardo and Jorge Vasquez, Dominic Valenzuela, and Ethan Du. Nathan Medina and Emmett Young lead the block party in the middle. Joshua Lee also gave some relief minutes for our setter. Our JV is also off to a great start going 2-1 for the week. Next week, we will be at Katella on Monday, and home against Valencia on Tuesday. Come out and support the boys.

Track and Field

The team competed against Anaheim High School this past Wednesday and came away with wins on all four levels. On the girls side, Haley Won continued her winning way with 1st place finishes in the 100m hurdles and triple jump, Layla Thorton nearly equaled her personal best in the shot put with a mark of 33-00.75 while also winning the discus, freshman Melina Sibal won the 400m and 200m, junior Janelle Flores was 2nd in the 100m and 300 hurdles, Makayla Felesmino placed 1st in the 300m hurdles and 2nd in the triple jump, and junior Riley Bernal placed 1st in the long jump in her first track meet. On the boys side, senior Jaden Pulsifer threw a lifetime best in the discus (104-06.00), Dorian Yepez placed 1st in the 100m high hurdles and 2nd in 300m hurdles, sophomore Ryan Leitner placed 1st in the 200m and 400m, Troy Fernandez placed 2nd in the 400m, Nathan Limon (10:21) and Alejandor Hernandez (10:25) went 1-2 in the 3200m, Jack Golla won the 800m, DJ Cobbs placed 1st in the triple jump with his teammates Henry Pillon and Dallas Padron right behind him, and Nicholas Kimoto won the high jump. The team will host the Fullerton Distance Carnival next Saturday evening with close to 20 teams attending!

Boys Tennis

Fullerton Boys Tennis faced El Dorado Hugh School Tuesday and lost by the score of 4-14. The match was closer than what the final score indicated. The effort was there from all players. Tim Chung and Nicholas Vo, each won 2 of 3 sets.

Thursday's match against Walnut High School was canceled due to rain.
