MAS Conference
A group of our students attended Fullerton College's Males Achieving Success (MAS) Conference. The conference featured motivational speakers and workshops that emphasized focusing on careers and offered mentorships. Thank you to our Guidance Techs, Ms. Conde and Ms. Hurtado, for taking our boys to this amazing experience.

Boys Basketball
Last week boys basketball finished the week beating Katella HS on Friday by a score of 64-32. Jeremy Guillen led the tribe with 18 points followed by Isaiah Edwards with 16. The JV lost to Katella by 8 and the freshman team won by 40. Our program opens league play on Thursday 12/21 against Troy High School.
The varsity boys basketball team will be traveling to Cactus High School in Glendale Arizona 12/26-12/30 to play in the winter hoops shootout. Following that trip, the freeway league is hosting a one-day boys and girls varsity showcase at Sonora and Sunny Hills High School. The showcase is to raise money for Children's Hospital. All of the proceeds from admissions and concessions will be donated to the hospital. The tribe will take on University High School on Saturday, January 6th at 1:30pm at Sunny Hills High School.
Have a safe and happy holiday from our family to yours!

Boys Soccer
Boy’s soccer finished with a tough loss to Sunny Hills 2-1. We gave up 2 goals in the first half the made adjustments for the second half and kept the pressure on till the final whistle. We are 1-1 in league and 2-2-1 overall. The good news is that our first practice after our loss, a beautiful rainbow appeared and good luck is on the way. All our teams have a home game today vs Foothill. We are anxious to get back on our winning ways. We have had a great practice week.

Girls Soccer
Girls Soccer has been busy.. battling in the Best of the West tournament. JV was on a roll in the two-weekend event. Coming out of the gates hot with two big wins against Montebello and Mayfair. Gisselle Rodriguez, Lopez with the hat trick vs Montebello. JV came back for week two taking a loss vs cross-town rivals Buena Park, then taking Wilson HS Hacienda Hts to finish off an impressive tournament.
Varsity was equally impressive starting with victory against Magnolia, then Glendale / Hoover HS. Varsity returned Dec 16 to convincingly beat Bell Gardens in the semi-final. Making their first Championship Final in years the Tribe was ready for an aggressive Calabasas High School. An intense match from the first whistle Calabasas scored in the 62nd minute of the match quickly senior Janelle Flores answered with an equalizing goal at the 67 minutes to tie up the match. Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation the match went to PKs to decide the Champions.. in the end, Calabasas won 5 and 4 in PKs. A tremendous campaign from our varsity girls as they almost bring home the Best in the West Championship. Next on the schedule Battle of the Heights Tournament on December 27 & 28.

Girls Water Polo
Girls Waterpolo started with the Chino Hills Thrills in the Hills tournament. With close games, we went 1 and 3. One game went to sudden death over time. Thursday we headed to Canyon High School where our girls displayed some huge advanced moves. Elizabeth Timmerman looked like a ballerina in the water as she spun circles around her girls near the goal earning 5-meter penalty shots for the team. Natalie Brandeis scored a huge half-court cross-cage shot. Then Brooke Bedrow showed her prowess pushing their goalie into the goal with the ball. Keeping us in the game was Sienna Oliver whose ability to get almost her whole body out of the pool makes it hard for anyone to get a shot off on us. Lastly keeping them focused… or maybe distracted, interim Coach Hairy barked orders. Good job to our ladies, we look forward to seeing you fight for league in the upcoming battles.

Boys Volleyball
The boys had another strong showing at the Garden Grove Spike Off Winter Tournaments this past Saturday. Coming up a 2-1 record the previous tournament to move up in the rankings, they went 2-1 again. The boys dominated Coast Mesa 2-0 and Diamond Ranch 2-0. In the 1 vs 2 match, our boys gave powerhouse Eagle Rock all they could handle. The first set, the boys were up 24-19, needing only 1 point to close out the 1st set, but Eagle Rock mounted a comeback, scoring 7 straight points to win 26-24. The boys did not hang the heads over that devastating loss. They were in the exact same situation, up 24-19, only this time we were able to stop another comeback, winning 26-24. In the final set, Eagle Rock proved to be too strong, winning the match 2-1. With both our starting middle blocker and and starting libero out for the tournament due to illness and previous commitment, the back up players in those respective positions stepped up big and were able to get their much needed reps to get better. Next tournament will be 20 Jan, 2024. Go Tribe!
