Homecoming

We had a great Homecoming weekend last week! It started with a spirited assembly and ended with a great Football game! We crowned our Homecoming Royalty and won the game! Thank you to our awesome ASB for putting this all together!

2023 Wall of Fame Inductees

Every year during our Homecoming festivities we also induct a new cohort of FUHS Alumni into our Wall of Fame! We had the privilege of inducting Shirley Owens McClanahan-Class of 1973, Chris Norby-Class of 1968, and Richard Jewett-Class of 1930. We thank Mr. Norby and the families of Shirley and Richard for being present as we honored their achievements. We also had our amazing Culinary Academy present serving some really good hors d'oeuvres.

Homecoming Dance success!

Our students had fun at the dance breaking a school record for having over 1000 students in attendance! Go Tribe!

Cheer and Song:

We had our last football game of the season on 10/27. Our program is so proud to have cheered our Varsity football team to a nail-biting win against Buena Park! We invited our JV cheer team to join us on the sidelines and had a blast. It was also our homecoming game! The theme was so fun to choreograph with Dance Production and allowed us to get a little spooky.

Tennis:

On Wednesday, the Girls Varsity tennis traveled to Eastvale to face off against St Roosevelt High School in CIF First round match-up. From the beginning, watching the other team warm up, it was going to be a closely contested match. After the first round, the score was tied 3 to 3. All three singles dropped their sets but all were close. Abigail Kelly lost a close one against their number one 4-6. Kate Luengo (2-6) and Hailey Kwok (5-7) also did well but lost a close one too. But the doubles team swept their matches to keep pace with the match. #1 Sfatcu/Balarie won easily 6-1, and #2 White/Lynch also won but gave up 3 games after being up 5-0, eventually winning 6-3. #3 Elomina/Bondoc played superbly, winning their match 6-0. Round two is the same as the singles are having a tough time. #1 Abigail dropped yet another close set, 3-6. #3 Hailey got 0-6 by their #1. But the saving mome to of the match is our #2, Kate. She had a grueling 50-minute set in which she finally prevailed, 7-5. This is crucial because it gave us an edge going into the last round with the doubles again ln sweeping the round. #1 doubles won 6-1, #2 won 6-2 and #3 won 6-2. After two rounds, FUHS is up by a set, 7-5. Unfortunately at this point, one of #2 dubs, Bonnie Lynch, suffered from back pain and could not continue on and was subbed in. In the last round, if we can win all doubles sets, we would win the match, but that would be too easy. The doubles ended taking another two sets out of three played. #1 duds won 6-1 and #3 dubs won 6-1, but #2 dubs came up short, losing 2-6. Making the score 9-6 going into the last singles round. Right off the bat, #3 singles lost 0-6, tightening the score to 9-7 with two matches to go. #2 Kate was exhausted from her second-round battle and had to face the opponent's #1. Although tired, Kate managed to scrape out 2 games in a 2-6 loss. Now the score is 9-8 with our #1 single left to play. And in true fashion, #1 single, Abigail, and on her 15th birthday, gave herself a big birthday gift by pummeling her opponent, 6-0, to seal Fullerton's ticket to the next round!!! The final score was Fullerton 10 and Roosevelt 8. GREAT JOB LADIES!!! Next up, the team gave a break and will be hosting the tournament's second seed, Cate High School from Carpinteria, Santa Barbara. The match will be this Friday at 2pm.

Cross Country:

Cross country finished off the season with Freeway League Finals at Ralph B. Clark Park this past Wednesday, November 1st. Girls JV was the first race and an absolute show! Fullerton had six runners in the top ten. . Miley Basas led the team to secure first place with a time of 22:30. She was closely supported by a tight pack of runners placing third through sixth place. Olivia Wilder crossed the finish line next with a time of 22:34 and was followed by Alexa Lopez (22:42), Ansal Esquivias (22:57), and Sofia Botimer (23:04). This stellar performance earned Fullerton first place in the race with a 33 point gap and secured their spot as league champions!

Boys frosh soph also had a spectacular race with all five scoring runners placing in the top ten. Jonah Moreno crossed the line first for Fullerton, earning second place with an impressive time of 17:42. He was followed by Drake Bromley in fourth place (18:12), Leandro Nguyen in fifth place (18:16), Henry Burns in ninth place (18:42), and Blake Miyasato in tenth place (18:56). This earned boys frosh soph first place with a gap of 34 points as well as the coveted title of league champions!

Boys JV raced next and although they did not have a full team to score, three of Fullerton’s runners placed in the top ten. This included Adam Zibell in fourth place (18:42), Heikki Kohlenberger in seventh place (19:01), and Brendan Kojima in eighth place (19:16).

Girls varsity raced next knowing this would be a tough race. Morgan McAndrew came in first for Fullerton and third overall with a time of 19:37. The next runners took eleventh through fourteenth place starting with Reagan Glidewell (21:02). She was followed by Sofia Tabbal (21:05), Azumi Fuertes (21:10), and Melina Sibal (21:13). Despite the great effort set forth in training leading up to this event and exerted in this race itself, it was not enough to overtake Troy for the league champion title. The varsity girls secured second place in the race and second place in the Freeway League.

Boys varsity found themselves in an equally difficult position and fought to utilize this final race to advance in league standings. Fullerton’s first runner and second place runner overall was Jack Golla with a time of 16:20. He was supported by Max Olivar (17:13), Jude Banda (17:25), Anthony Benedetto (17:30), and Nathan Karcher (17:58). After a season of preparation, Fullerton unfortunately was unable to advance as had been hoped, but still managed to secure third place in the race and in league standings.

This final race for the Freeway League was certainly a mix of emotions, especially for our seniors that we were able to honor. We would like to thank Alejandro Hernandez, Nathan Karcher, Max Olivar, Adam Zibell, Evelyn Arreola, Ansal Esquivias, Reagan Glidewell, Amaya Moreno, and Morgan McAndrew for their hard work and dedication throughout their cross country careers. We close the season with league champions for boys frosh soph and girls JV, as well as two qualifying varsity teams. The varsity squad will continue to work diligently in preparation for CIF Prelims which will be held at Mt. San Antonio College on the morning of Friday, November 10th. It has been a tough and rewarding season, and we are grateful it’s not over yet! GO TRIBE!
