Activities

Red Cross Blood Drive

Our ASB supported a Blood Drive on campus in partnership with the American Red Cross! Thank you to all of the students who donated blood this week! You helped save lives!

B E A S T

BEAST Biological Arts Design Engineering (BADE) students started off Special Makeup Effects this year by studying how the body heals from injuries and then created atrophic scars using alcohol-based paints and rigid collodion. Students studied the work of and were sent "pro-tips" by South African SFX artist Mathew Howard-Tripp. Mr. Howard-Tripp has worked on numerous films including Raised by Wolves (2020), and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). In particular, students studied his work in the film Dredd (2015), in which he created the rigid collodion scars for the villainous Madeline Madrigal (alias "MaMa"). Students will be sending in their photographed scar entries to Mr. Howard-Tripp by email, and Mr. Howard-Tripp will be giving students feedback on their effects, and picking a winning Makeup FX in our first-ever Ma-Maoff!.

AVID

This week UC Berkeley came out to speak to all of our AVID classes about their campus. The AVID juniors showed some love to our amazing counselors, and Mr Macintosh walked the seniors through the UC application. Getting ready for application season! Good Luck Seniors!

Football:

This was a bye week for Fullerton Football and a good time for a reset after a hard loss of 26-35 to Brea Olinda HS on September 15th. The coaches and team took time this week to watch film, make adjustments, and clean up areas for improvement.

It wasn’t all work for the football team though, we started off our bye week with some much needed team “Bowling and Bonding” and of course PIZZA!!

Fullerton Football returns on Friday, September 29th, to Fullerton Stadium as the visitors against Troy HS. Kick off is at 7pm.

Cheer and Song:

During our bye week our program took the opportunity to work more skills for the upcoming season! On the weekend our coaching staff took some of our upperclassmen to a recruiting clinic at Hope University for their STUNT team! Our girls were able to talk to the coach, display their stunting and tumbling skills, work college level stunts, and get dorm tours! We are so excited for these individuals and their future within STUNT the Sport!

Tennis:

FUHS Ladies Varsity Tennis deafeated Sonora 13-5. #1 singles Abigail Kelly (3-6, 6-0, 6-0) and #2 singles Kate Luengo (0-6, 6-4, 6-2) won 4 of 6 sets played. #3 singles Hailey Kwok (0-6, 3-6, 4-6) lost all 3 sets played. Although losing all 3 sets, Hailey injured her ankle from a slight strain, but tough out the match.

The doubles squad was up and ready for this match against Sonora, winning all 9 sets played! The teams learned and implemented different doubles formations, confusing and overwhelming Sonora's doubles squad. the #1 doubles team of Christina Sfatcu and Rebecca Balarie continued to tear the league apart with yet another trifecta, winning 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. These two ladies are on a mission, look out league! #2 doubles team of Nicole White and Bonnie Lynch (6-0, 6-0, 6-3) and doubles team of Amber Elomina and Francine Bondoc (6-3, 6-1, 6-4) found the new formation strategies worked effectively and made doubles easy and fun. Let's keep on perfecting this strategy so we can show Troy and Sunny Hills what we are made of.

FUHS Girls JV also got back to winning, beating Sonora's JV with the score of 11-5. #1 singles Audrey Shu (6-0, 6-0), #2 singles Sophia Santos (6-0, 6-0) 6 and #3 singles Ella Kim (6-0, 6-0) won all 6 sets played. Great work girls! The #3 doubles team of Elysee Hua and Shanelle Thompson (6-4, 6-0) won both sets. The #1 doubles team of Alyson Hensley (0-6, 6-1), #2 doubles team of Brenna Williamson and Janelle Rodriguez (0-6, 7-5), and the #4 doubles team of Ava Torresluna and Ellen Munoz (2-6, 6-2) contributed 3 points to the win. Great job JV Girls!!!

On Thursday of this week FUHS Girls Varsity Tennis beat La Habra HS, 18-0, a complete dominating day on the courts. The singles squad of Abigail Kelly (6-0, 6-0, 6-0), Kate Luengo (6-1, 6-1, 6-0) and Hailey Kwok (6-0, 6-2, 6-1) won all 9 sets played. Equally, the doubles squad also won all 9 sets played. The duds team of Christiona Sfatcu and Rebecca Balarie (6-0, 6-0, 6-0) and the team of Nicole White and Bonnie Lynch (6-0, 6-0, 6-0) had a perfect scoring day. The third duds team of Francine Bondoc and Amber Elomina (6-2, 6-0, 6-0) also did fantastic.

The Girls JV Tennis also won big against LHHS with the score of 12-4. The JV singles squad of Audrey Shu (6-2, 6-1), Ella Kim (6-3, 6-0), Sophia Santos (6-0, 6-1) and Ava Torresluna (6-0, 1-6) did great! The duds team of Alyson Hensley/Daniela Perez (6-4, 6-0), Brenna Williamson/Janelle Rodriguez (3-6, 6-2), Elysee Hua/Shanelle Thompson (6-0, 6-0) and Ellen Munoz/Viviana Sifuentes (4-6, 0-6) competed and had good results!

Races will begin with girls JV at 2:00 pm, boys Frosh-Soph at 2:30 pm, boys JV at 3:00 pm, girls varsity at 3:30 pm, and boys varsity at 4:00 pm.

Girls Golf:

The the girls had an great week. The win against BP on Tuesday had a tough loss again brea on Wednesday but on Tuesday Emily was the medalist for the match. We had a another tough loss against Troy losing by only 11 strokes but Olivia was the medalist for the match and the match on Wednesday against Brea Olinda

Girls Volleyball:

What a week this was for our girls. After the first 2 weeks of fighting and continuing to come up short, putting them in a 0-4 record in the league, the girls came into this week with a sense of urgency, knowing that if they keep fighting, they will persevere. Well, the girls went 2-0 this week. We started the week with a dominating win over Buena Park. 25-9, 25-17, 25-15 (3-0). The girls quickly turned their attention to our cross-town rival, Troy, to which we lost a close match during the first round, when we went all 5 sets but lost in the end due to too many unforced errors. This time, the girls cleaned up the mistakes they made in the 1st round and dominated Troy with a 3-0 sweeping win. The girls eased into a 2-0 lead, 25-22, 25-18, before Troy tried to mount a comeback in the 3rd set, even pushing the score to 25-25, but our girls learned to close out the game when it mattered, scoring the last 2 points to put the game away, 27-25. The girls are now sitting in 4th place, a prime position to push for that final playoff position. Our lower levels are also doing phenomenal, with our JV going 2-0 and Frosh going 1-1 for the week. Huge shout out to our student section for showing up at every game to support our girls. Specific shout out to our boys basketball, baseball, water polo, and football teams for making up the greatest cheering section in the entire league.

Boys Water Polo:

Boy's Water Polo had two games this week. Starting off with a win against Sunny Hills we powered through with a 13-9 victory. Justin Pearson and Owen Coloumbe with 5 goals. Josh Reed, Christian Lawson, and Ryan Verity each with 1 goal. The wall Josiah Jessup with 9 blocks. Then we went off to play the high-ranked El Dorado. Our Boys played hard even leading the score into the second half. But unfortunately, El Dorado was able to pull away in the second half. The end score was a tough loss at 9 to 12. Brandon Fan 4 goals. Owen Coloumbe 3 goals. Josh Reed and Justin Pearson each with 1 goal. Josiah Jessup with 5 blocks. JV Faired well with a victory over Sunny Hills 11-6. Then had a very close game with El Dorado, losing 5-4.
