Softball

The Tribe went 1-1 on the week against Sonora and La Habra. Against Sonora on Tuesday the Tribe was held to 2 hits suffering a 4-0 loss. Thursday was a big game against La Habra to solidify 3rd in league. Fullerton came in at 4-3, La Habra one game behind at 3-4. La Habra jumped out to 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Tribe responded with 2, 2 out RBI hits by Analise Barrios and Zoey Bautista. The Tribe went up 5-1 and held on down the stretch to win 5-4. Fullerton currently sits at 5-3, one game behind Sonora for second and 2 games ahead of Troy and Sunny Hills. Next week Fullerton has senior night against Buena Park on Monday and Troy on Wednesday. Come out and support our two seniors Hailee Nelson and Aly Mejia on Monday during our last home game of the regular season.  Thank you Photographer Carlos Rivera for some great pictures!

Baseball

On Wednesday, the Tribe continued their dominance of the Freeway League, crushing Buena Park 16 to 3.  Senior George Papadatos threw 4 solid innings for Fullerton.  Key doubles from Conor Sunderland (including 1 RBI and 3 runs), Kyle Kim (2 RBIs and 1 run), Malachi Meni (2 RBIs and 1 run), Carlos Barrios (1 run), and a 3 RBI triple from Niko Mendez sparked the team to huge rallies during the game.  Relievers Jacob Crail, Logan Davis, and Matthew Hancock all threw 1 inning a piece to close out the game.

Fullerton completed the series sweep over Buena Park with the score of 15-2.  Matthew Carbajal took the mound with a commanding performance.  Conor Sunderland went 5-5 at the plate and hit is 6th homerun for the season and is batting .486 HR(6), RBI (30) Hits (34) OPS 1.474.  With this win Fullerton Baseball clinches at least a share of the Freeway League Title.  The boys are hoping to become the outright champions next Tuesday when we play Troy at home at 3:15pm.  Tuesday will be Senior Day and we will be celebrating our 12 seniors.  To this date, FUHS Baseball has outscored its league opponents 76 to 13.

Next week, we will host our Senior Game on Tuesday, April 25 vs. Troy at home.

Swim and Dive

This week Fullerton Swim Team lost a hard-fought swam meet against Troy.  Although we lost the meet the swimmers continue to work hard and push forward preparing for League Prelims this coming Monday.  League final will be at Troy High School.  This weekend, FUHS will continue to get ready for League Finals by competing at the Chino Hills Invitational Swim Meet.  At the Chino Hills Invitational today, Cole Chang dropped a full second upping his placing in CIF.  Sydney Cruise swam a 2:24 in the 200im qualifying her for CIF.

The boys and girls competed at the Orange County Championships on Saturday, April 15th at Mission Viejo High School which featured the best of the best in every event. Each was allotted two entries into the meet per event and there is no guarantee that those entries were going to be accepted given the high level of competition.

The girls highlights included Morgan McAndrew winning the varsity rated 1600m with a time of 5:21.59, Melina Sibal finishing 4th overall in both the frosh-soph 100m (13.31) and 200m (26.96) Alexa Lopez finishing 10th in the frosh-soph 400m (64.29), Amaya Moreno in the varsity 400m (66.71), Janelle Flores in the varsity 400m (67.10) and 300 hurdles (54.06), Sofia Tabbal in the frosh-soph 1600m (5:49.13), Brooke Tanner in the frosh-soph 1600m (6:21.39), Layla Thornton in the varsity shot put (34-05.00) and discus (103-03.00), and Janessa Gallardo in the frosh-soph shot put (22-01.00) and discus (73-03).

On Wednesday, April 19th, the team competed in the freeway league prelims which served as a qualification round for the freeway league finals to be held on Wednesday, April 26th at Fullerton High School. Morgan McAndrew set a new lifetime best in the 400m (60.31) and moved up significantly on Fullerton’s all time list. Next week league finals will crown league champions and athletes will have a chance to qualify for CIF. Field events will begin at 4pm while running events will start at 6pm.

Boys Golf

Varsity and JV swept two programs this week: Sonora and La Habra.  Varsity beat their previous record of 193 by 9 strokes 184. Jack McMackin shot 1 over par and Sangat Grewal shot 1 under but the highlight was Jack Arnold shooting 4 over par, his best round yet. Varsity is 9-3 with two games remaining with a must win against Troy on Wednesday to finish 2nd in league.

Boys Tennis

FUHS Boys Varsity Tennis had a strong showing against Buena Park, winning 13-5. Singles players Tim Chung, Ben Villalobos and Nicholas Vo won all their sets played, scoring 6 points for the team. Doubles team of Josh Balarie and Ibrahim Tabbah, Caleb Park and Nate Bek, and Francisco Rincon and Jack Sprague rounded off the scoring with 7 points.

On Thursday we had a tough loss to end the season for the FUHS Boys Varsity Tennis, losing 4-14 to Troy. Bright spot of the day is Tim Chung and Nic Vo scoring a point each for the team, and an outstanding play by Ben Villalobos, winning 2 out of 3 sets. Next up, League Finals at Sunny Hills on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
