Hello Fullerton Families!

Have a great weekend! Our weather seems to be getting warmer. It's definitely a countdown to Spring Break! Please go through the newsletter today, There are many celebrations and information on upcoming events including Prom!

Celebrations

Every Student Succeeding - ACSA Award

Senior, Joseph Lopez was honored on Friday as FJUHSD's Every Student Succeeding Award recipient. We celebrated his recognition at Bowers Museum in Santa Ana along with many others from across our county. Joseph has struggled through his physical disabilities caused by a debilitating disease but throughout all of the challenges he is firmly resolved to drive across the stage to celebrate his high school graduation. The disease has not taken his strength of character, his artistic talents, and his kind heart. Joseph rises above it all, still chasing after his goals when others would have given up. We are very proud of Joseph! It was an honor to have been there with him and his family.

JROTC

This week was a busy week for JROTC program. On Saturday, they competed at the Kaiser HS Drill meet where most of the Armed, UnArmed, and Color Guard teams got their first taste of being inspected by drill sergeants. Teams were commanded by cadets/LTC Julia Bustamante, cadet/Major Sean Finch, cadet Captain Zion Tran, and cadet Sgt Joshua Lopez. It was a scary and intimidating experience for a lot of our cadets, yet rewarding after gaining confidence during their interaction with the DS’s. Then on Wednesday, our academic team competed at Sonora HS in a game of Jeopardy against several local JROTC programs, in which they came in 2nd place, missing 1st by only 1 question. Commanding our Academic team was cadet SFC Joshua Lee. Great job cadets.

OCADA Women in Sports Conference

Some of our female athletes had the opportunity to attend an amazing Woman in Sports Conference which was hosted by the Orange County Athletic Directors Association. They learned a lot and heard from inspirational female athletes. Thank you to our Assistant Athletic Director, Mrs. Kikey Ramos for taking them to this great conference.

Spring Sports

Softball

Softball was rained out this week, but will pick up action this Saturday against Segerstrom (9am) and Warren (1pm) here at FUHS. Next week the girls will travel to Walnut on Tuesday and Garden Grove on Thursday.

Baseball

Our Baseball team was rained out most of this week, but on Friday were able to head out to San Juan Hills to make-up a game. On a happy note, our baseball field has been given a makeover. We have installed a new halo, a new scoreboard and new bleachers. Our next home varsity game will be March 11th at 11am vs. Ocean View H.S.

Boys Volleyball

The boys had a great week, going undefeated, 3-0, and now sitting at 5-1 for the season. Started the week with a sweeping win of 3-0 at Katella on Monday, and another 3-0 win at home against Valencia on Tuesday. Against Valencia, the boys were down 18-23 in the 3rd set, as we tried to close out a sweeping victory, but they refused to let Valencia win by digging deep and scored 7 straight points in the end, with Price Sanders serving all 7 points, to close out the match 25-23. On Wednesday, we ran into a much tougher opponent, Samueli Academy. After losing the first set 24-26, the boys battled back to win the next 3 sets, 26-24, 25-23, 25-20. Rowan Yeo continues to lead the defense with some mind-blowing digs and ball control, while Hyunmin directs the offense distributing the ball to his attackers. The dynamic duo of Johnny Leonardo and Jorge Vasquez, both sophomores, are absolutely dominating the competition in attacks. Our JV is also continuing to fight to improve every day, closing out the week with a great comeback win against Samueli Academy, going 1-2 for the week. Next up, home game against Savanna on Monday. Please come out and see some exciting volleyball!
