Challenges
TikTok has become the latest hot social media app for our students. Like most social media platforms it has many positive trends, but unfortunately, there is always the negative side. Current TikTok trends are testing the tradition of excellence not only at all of our high schools but high schools across the country, and we need your help. We have been notified that the next round of TikTok challenges includes vandalism, profanity, assault, sexual assault, obscene gestures, and more.

Fullerton has worked hard to raise our expectations of good behavior and live up to the Fullerton legacy of success. I am confident that our students will not engage in these disturbing trends. However, we need your help in talking to your student about the consequences of their actions. It is important to note that many of these disgusting challenges would result in criminal charges, suspension, and expulsion from school if students were to participate.

Let's all do our part to ensure that FUHS continues to be a safe and welcoming place for our outstanding students and staff. High school should be a positive and exciting time in students' lives, and I know that collectively we will not allow that to change.

Celebrations
September 18th and 19th, was our first tournament for Fullerton Union Speech and Debate Team. It was hosted online by Cal State Long Beach. We have 14 students that competed. Our students did an amazing job and some students placed after preliminary rounds:

Briana Izquierdo Open OI - 3rd place

Valerie Tran and Joshua Lee - Novice Public Forum - Broke to Quarter Finals

Moi Arceo and Oliver Montecristo - Open Duo received 1st place! This entry got a bid to the Tournament of Champions and the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions.

Congratulations to all of our Speech and Debate students! They are continuing the legacy of great Speech and Debate at FUHS!

From Fullerton Football:

With the start of October, we are beginning our campaign for our 12th Annual, Fullerton Union High School Tackle Cancer Football Game. Our Tackle Cancer week starts on October 4th and concludes with our Tackle Cancer Football Game on October 8th. During the time leading up to the game, we are raising funds to donate money to the KM Legacy Foundation. The KM Legacy Foundation was created in 2017 by FUHS alumna Katie Monson to raise money for brain cancer awareness & research. The foundation also provides leadership opportunities for Fullerton Joint Union High School District students both during their time in high school and beyond.

At this time, we are asking for financial donations to assist the KM Legacy Foundation in supporting cancer research and the students of our community. Any amount that you can donate will be greatly appreciated. The Fullerton Indians Football Booster Club will be handling all donations and will present a check to the KM Legacy Foundation in a half-time ceremony during the October 8th Tackle Cancer Football Game against La Habra High School. Every dollar of your donation will be going to the KM Legacy Foundation and will be tax deductible. The Fullerton Indians Football Booster Club will provide you a non-profit tax I.D. number after receiving your donation.

In order to spread the word and make our cause visible to the school, community and city, we are also selling T shirts in support of the KM Legacy Foundation and all those fighting cancer. With your donation of $250 to $2500 your company logo will be placed on the back of our Tackle Cancer shirt. The pricing chart below indicates levels of donorship. Level 1 donors will have the largest logos on the Tackle Cancer shirt. For logos to be placed on the shirt in time for printing, donations need to be received by 3 p.m. on October 1st, 2021.

Please help us in raising money for this great cause and in support of the KM Legacy Foundation and all those fighting cancer.

If anyone knows anyone that can sponsor or owns a business that is willing to donate please Coach Salazar at rsalazar@fjuhsd.org.

College Application and Success Day (PSAT Day)
College Readiness Day

On October 13th we will have a special schedule to allow our students to participate in various activities designed to expose students to college as well as get our seniors ready to click submit on those applications! The school will be covering the cost of the PSAT for all students.

School will start at 7:50am and end at 12:15pm.

Seniors: College Application Day
Seniors will have the opportunity to rotate through different college stations to help them prepare for life after high school. Stations include CSU Applications, UC Applications, Private/Out of State University Applications, Fullerton College, Community Colleges, Personal Statement Writing, and FAFSA. Seniors have been meeting with their Counselor and selecting what workshop they would like to attend on October 13th.

Juniors & Sophomores: PSAT or ASVAB
All Juniors have the option of taking the PSAT or the ASVAB. Students made their selection through a survey provided in English class.

Freshmen: PSAT 8/9 or Success Day
Freshmen will be taking the PSAT 8/9. This exam will be digital so all 9th-grade students need to bring their fully charged Chromebook with them. Any Freshman who has been identified as needing extra support to get on the track to success will be meeting in the MSA building and attending workshops covering organization, school involvement, and mental health. (Individual students will be contacted).

All Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen will need to check the breezeway beginning Tuesday, October 12th to see which classroom they will be assigned to.

If you have questions about the PSAT or PSAT 8/9 contact Counselor Erin DeFries edefries@fjuhsd.org. If you have questions about the ASVAB contact Mrs. Kim at hkim@fjuhsd.org.

FJUHSD Communication
Student Attestation

Students should have received an email from the Fullerton Joint Union High School District using our Qualtrics Survey system asking about their vaccination status. So you are aware, we are asking for this information should we have to contact trace for a positive COVID-19
exposure. Remember, the protocols for a close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID are different when a student is vaccinated vs. unvaccinated. If quarantining is necessary the amount of days varies if your student is vaccinated or not. Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is voluntary for our students, for this inquiry, we are asking your student to voluntarily answer the question if they have been “fully vaccinated” or not. If they have not yet filled out this specific survey on their vaccination status, please have them search their school email for the Qualtrics Attestation Survey.
COVID Protocols
COVID Entrance Procedures
Safety Procedures attending school during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • All students and staff will complete a Qualtrics COVID Safety Survey each morning (the survey is sent to Student's school email).
  • Students will be directed to the central building breezeway as they enter campus where they will show their green checkmark from the completed survey permitting them to be on campus.
  • Students will walk through the thermal-imaging temperature cameras in the breezeway as they show their green Qualtrics survey checkmarks.
  • Face coverings (masks) are required inside and are optional while outside. Please ensure that your students bring a mask everyday.
To view more information, you may go to the district website.

If you have received a COVID 19 test, do not attend school until you receive the results of that test and then only if you are negative for COVID 19. Additionally, if you have been exposed to a person who has recently tested positive for COVID-19 please stay home and contact the school attendance office.

In accordance with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), CA Dept. of Public Health (CDPH), and Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA), we ask that you complete the Qualtrics survey each morning prior to arriving on campus. However, please do not attend school if you have experienced any COVID-related symptoms:
  • Flu-like symptoms such as fever of 100.4 or greater
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose that is not associated with a pre-existing condition or other chronic health condition.

If you have received a COVID 19 test, do not attend school until you receive the results of that test and then only if you are negative for COVID 19.

Further, following the recommendations issued by the CDC, the CDPH has issued guidance in support of full in-person instruction and to as much instructional time as possible. A link to that guidance is included at the bottom of this communication.

Please note that masks will be required by all staff and students while indoors regardless of vaccinated status. As an extra precaution, FJUHSD is committed to continuing the enhanced cleaning procedures established to ensure that our schools are clean, sanitized, and safe. Further, temperatures will continue to be taken each morning.
