Week 9 - Second Semester
Friday March 4, 2022
Hello FUHS Families!

Our semester continues on with exciting events and activities! There is much to choose from. Please make sure you come out and enjoy a great day of watching boys volleyball, softball or baseball, tennis or Track! We also have a great dance concert, a gallery show with our local junior highs and an amazing musical coming up! Come out and support and enjoy being a part of our school community!

As we speed through second semester we are beginning to plan for next school year as well. It will be here before we know it and we want to be ready. One of the major changes we are looking at is the change in start and end times! As we all know the state approved a later start time for high schools and it must be in effect by the start of the 2022-2023 school year. Our new start and end times next year will be 8:30am-3:30pm. We will also have increased professional development days for our teachers which means that we will have more early dismissal days for students throughout the school year. We will have more details as the semester goes on so that you as a family can also begin planning for next school year. Please be on the look out.

Athletics Review Feb. 21st - 26th
Boys Basketball finished their season this week with a hard fought loss to Chatsworth in the first round of CIF State playoffs. We are so proud of the boys for all their hard work and commitment to each other and the TRIBE. Great job boys, can’t wait to see what exciting things you do next year.

Baseball opened the Freeway League season at Sonora on Wednesday. Senior Ace, Sebastian Fany threw a 2-hit extra inning (8 innings) shut out versus Seniors Jack Meek (committed to Cal State Fullerton) and Sebastian Zamorano at Sonora.  The game was scoreless through 7 full innings, when Junior George Papadatos hit a towering homerun over the left field fence to take the lead in the top of the 8th inning. Fullerton defense held them in the bottom half of the inning to secure the 1 to 0 WIN! Congratulations to the varsity team for their 1st league win. Next game will be at home vs. Division 6 CIF Champs La Habra on Friday, March 4.

Softball: Softball is 8-2 after a win over Bellflower (13-1) and a loss to El Dorado (10-2). Varsity takes on Rancho Alamitos next week while JV takes on Rancho Alamitos and Garden Grove. Keep up the good work girls.

Boys Volleyball: The boys played two games this week losing both to Valencia and Monrovia. The boys are fighting tough and working to get better everyday.

Track: Our Track team is preparing for two meets coming up next week. On Thursday there will be a Tri-Meet between FUHS, La Mirada and Santa Fe High Schools here at FUHS starting at 3:00 pm. The Rotary Tri-City Meet will be held on Saturday at FUHS starting at 9 am. Come see and cheer on three of our city’s high schools at one event and a fun filled day.

Swim: This week our swim team team took on El Dorado with our girls winning their meet and the boys falling short of a victory. The team is jumping back into the pool right away with three meets next week against Claremont on Monday, Oxford Academy on Tuesday, and Segerstrom on Thursday. A busy week for all our swim.

Golf: Our Boys Golf team continues preparing for their season opener with Santa Fe High School on March 15th.

Boys Tennis: Boys Tennis beat Brea on Thursday night with a score of 10-8.Walnut on Monday and Magnolia on Wednesday. Boys are dining a great job with Coach Inthavong and Coach Hess.

New Assistant Athletic Director
We would love to introduce our new Assistant Athletic Director Ms. Kikey Ramos! Coach Ramos is a math teacher here at FUHS and has been coaching volleyball and basketball. As we all know the Athletic Director position is a big job on a high school campus. AD Coach Olivas has been doing a great job since coming on board and as we work towards continuing to elevate Fullerton Athletics, Coach Ramos is a welcome addition to the team!

Fullerton College Information
FCC wanted to share some important flyers with upcoming events for our seniors who are planning to attend FC in Fall 2022.

Future Hornet Academy Wednesdays is a virtual set of workshops aimed to provide information on various Programs and Services on campus. Students do not need to attend all, but only the ones that interest them. The second page has program descriptions for all that are presenting. This event takes place on Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00pm in the months of March and the first half of April.

Virtual Counseling Sessions is an event to helps students meet with an FC counselor to receive their Educational Plan for the Fall 2022 semester. We will also have Financial Aid, along with Programs and Services on campus. This event happens in two hour blocks from April through Mid-June on Tues-Thurs in the afternoon and evenings. The student only needs to attend one session. If a student has completed COUN 140, they do NOT need to attend this event because they already have an Educational Plan.

Future Hornet Saturdays is an event in-person with virtual options that is a “one stop shop” for students to finish their matriculation steps, ask questions, and hear from Programs and Services on our campus. These take place on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 9:00am-12:00pm. Students do not need to stay the whole time. RSVPs are required as space is limited.
