Hello Fullerton Families!

I hope everyone had a great week! Enjoy the three day weekend!

Activities

Culinary & Hospitality Academy

Culinary students went on a field trip to Commonwealth Elementary School to do a cooking lesson with the little students! We love partnering with our local schools and instilling the love of food and creativity!

Model United Nations

I am so proud of our emerging MUN Club which has been preparing for competition weekly with Mrs. Wren! They attended the Valley Regional MUN Conference last weekend and excelled! Congratulations to Hamza Cabrer who received an Exemplary Research Award representing Italy in the UNESCO Committee! A special congratulations to Audrey Bae who received the Best Delegate award for her committee representing Finland in the UNESCO. This is the highest award a delegate can receive in a committee for which they also receive a gavel! I'm looking forward to what this MUN group will achieve because MUN is FUN!

Speech and Debate

Peninsula Invitational

January 14th and 15th, we took 11 students to compete. The Public Forum Team of Mackenzie Mauldin and Joshua Lee broke into elimination rounds with a record of 4 and 2. On the speech side, 9th grader Josie Lee finalized to 4th in Oratorical Interpretation, and 9th grader Molly Cooper got 2nd in Program Oral Interpretation and received her first bid to the Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky.

The very next weekend we competed online at Orange County Speech League’s Spring Open. At this competition: 11th grader Julia James got 3rd in Info, 10th grader Juliana Ibarra got 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation, and last but not least, 9th grader Sofia Tabbal took first place in Oratorical Interpretation.

We are moving forward with two more tournaments in February. First, we have Wolfpack at Claremont high school and then we travel to Berkeley with the team to compete at The Cal Invitational. In March we have State and National qualifying events to see if we will go to our State’s or Nation’s Championship events.

JROTC

Our Cadets hosted a very well-received JROTC Competition on last Saturday. Ten Schools participated (Buena Park, Sonora, Kaiser, Orange, Kennedy, Loara, Magnolia, Orange, Paramount, and Santiago). The Cadets put together four competitions on Saturday - a Drill Meet (Unarmed Inspection, Unarmed Drill, Unarmed Exhibition, Armed Inspection, Armed Exhibition, Novice, and Varsity Color Guard), a Raider Meet (Push-ups, Crunches, 1 Mile Runs, Rope Bridge and Map Reading), Marksmanship (Olympic 3x1 including Prone, Standing, and Kneeling positions) and an Academic/Leadership test. Cadet leadership in the planning, preparation, and execution phase of the competition conducted themselves very well, and our Boosters ran a fantastic snack bar to help raise money for the program.

Academics

AP Human Geography

Last week, Mrs. Hollon's AP Human Geography students visited a local grocery store to examine the sources of our food as part of our Agriculture unit. Students compared conventional and organic prices as well as the distance traveled of common food items. They then analyzed their data and compared it to the VonThünen Model of Agricultural Land Use. A big thank you to Ralphs Grocery Store for hosting our trip.

AVID

All AVID seniors in the district were able to partake in our first "Bite of Reality!" It was a huge success. Our seniors were each given a job, salary, credit score, and a child. They had to purchase life necessities like housing, food, transportation, childcare, and other items. Our seniors learned a lot about making good life choices! Thank you Mrs. Bravo-Fulman for taking our students and giving them a great reality bites experience!

FCC Field Trip

Today some of our senior students walked across the street to Fullerton College to get to know their future campus and learn where all of the helpful resources will be to help them ensure they are successful with the next chapter in their journey!

Winter Sports

Boys Basketball

Boys Basketball finished league play this past week taking on Buena Park and Troy. They beat Buena Park on Tuesday on senior night by a score of 58-43. On Thursday they traveled to Troy high school to take on the Warriors. Fullerton lost a hard-fought game in double overtime by a score of 57-53. Thank you to all of our seniors and their families for their commitment to Fullerton Basketball.

Girls Basketball

Girl’s Basketball finished the year with a hard-fought loss to Buena Park that came down to the last few minutes 38-36 last Tuesday. They then traveled to Troy and played hard in a loss 62-25 to the Warriors. Overall it has been a successful year for Lady Tribe as they improved on last year by 6 wins. Both levels improved throughout the season and are excited to capitalize on that in the upcoming season.

Girls Soccer

Girl’s Soccer’s last two games left in the season were against Buena Park and Troy, both games tested the team’s character. However, we celebrated our 11 Seniors in their last home game vs Troy and as a team we enjoyed our last team dinner together supplied by our booster club.. We will miss our Seniors, but our teams are developing and looking forward to next season. Our Frosh Soph team finished the year with a 1-0 win over Troy.

CIF Round 1

Girls Water Polo

Girls Water Polo completed the League Carousel last week and came in third place for the Freeway League and an automatic berth into the playoffs. The girls went on to play vs. Costa Mesa HS in Round 1 of CIF play. Unfortunately, the girls lost 8-9 is a well played game! Congratulations girls on a great season!

Boys Soccer

Boy’s Soccer finished the year with wins over Buena Park 2-1 and Troy 3-1. Varsity finished League in second place with a league record of 8-2 and overall 17-3-2. On Thursday they traveled to Santa Ana to face Godinez who finished #1 in Golden West League 15-4-6. Fullerton is ranked #9 and is one of only 16 teams playing in the CIF Open Division.  With 2 goals by Kenneth Flores, our boys beat Godinez 2-1, advancing to Round 2 of CIF!! The next game will be home at Fullerton Stadium vs. J.Serra HS at 5:00pm on Wednesday, February 15th. Come out and watch some great Div.1 play.

Our JV team was the Freeway League Champs with a record of 6-1-3. Frosh Soph finished 6-1-3 and also League Champs. Both programs are keeping up the Championship tradition.

Wrestling

It was an exciting day for Fullerton Wrestling as we battled at the Freeway League Championships Friday night at Sonora HS. We finished off with a total of 19 CIF qualifiers, 17 league finalists, and 4 league champs! We turn our focus to CIF Individual Championships next weekend on Friday and Saturday in pursuit to be all-CIF wrestlers and qualify for the CIF Masters Championships. The boys CIF will be at Brea HS and the girls will be at San Dimas HS

Our new scoreboard will be delivered and installed soon, so our baseball field will have an all brand new look this year. Good luck to Coach Hill and the boys.
