Track & Field
The boys and girls hosted a tri meet against Sonora and La Habra this past Wednesday and performed well in many events! The meet served as a way to qualify for league prelims but not towards team standings. Competitors must finish in the top 4 of their event or hit a standard in a league meet to qualify for league prelims to be held in late April. On the boys side, senior DJ Cobbs cleared a lifetime best of 5’11” in the high jump which is currently the best mark in the league. Other notable performers included Jack Golla in the 1600m and Alejandro Hernandez, Dylan Cobbs and Anthony Benedetto in the 300 hurdles, Nathan Karcher in the 400m, Gavin Ledbetter in the 200m, Jude Banda in the 3200m, Collin Yung in the discus throw, and Marcos Lerma in the shot put. On the girls side, notable performances came from Morgan McAndrew in the 1600m and 800m, Alexa Lopez in the 400 and 300 hurdles, the 4x100 team (Ciara Campos, Janelle Flores, Amaya Moreno, and Melina Sibal), Melina Sibal also won the 100m and 200m, freshman Azumi Fuertes in the 1600m, freshman Mahlia Jordan in the shot put and discus, Janessa Gallardo in the discus, and Matia Ornelas & Vinny Suarez-Villavazo in the 100 hurdles. If the freeway league finals meet was today, the boys varsity team would sit at the top while the girls varsity team would be a close second to Sunny Hills. Both teams will continue to train over spring break and compete at John Glenn High School next Thursday!

Boys Volleyball
The boys had an amazing week making history. Started league play against the 2 teams that we’ve never defeated before, 0-6 against both Troy and Sunny Hills since we started volleyball 4 years ago. On Tuesday, the boys opened up league play by beating Troy, at Troy 3-1. The boys started very slow, losing the first set 13-25, but came out with a sense of urgency, winning the next 3 sets 25-22, 25-20, 25-14 to close out the match. On Thursday, the boys hosted Sunny Hills, and was able to pull out the win 3-2. Another slow start, finding ourselves down 2-10 in the first set, but fought and crawled our way back to win 27-25. We took the 2nd set as well before Sunny Hills came back to win the 3rd and 4th set to force a 5th set, in which our boys dominated by winning 15-7. The boys are off to a great start with a 2-0 record and 11-4 overall. Hyunmin Kim led the team in assists. Jorge Vasquez, Johnny Leonardo, and Dominic Valenzuela are all contributing evenly in kills, Christian Zimmerman and Nathan Medina are holding down the middle on both sides of the ball. Rowan Yeo leads the team in digs with Jack Castillanos contributing some great minutes on defense.

Tennis
The Boys Tennis had a rough outing, losing to Troy 4-14. The bright spot of the day was singles players, Tim Chung and Ben Villalobos, winning 4 of 6 sets played. Next match is Thursday against Sunny Hills HS.
In our second match of the week, Boys Varsity Tennis fell to Sunny Hills, 4-14. Although the boys tried their best, Sunny Hills just overwhelmed Fullerton. The doubles lost all 9 sets played. The singles did better but couldn't make up the points scoring only 4 points. Singles player, Diego Gomez, played well, despite losing all 3 sets. Diego had 2 sets which he competed from the beginning to end. Tim Chung had a good day, winning 2 of 3 sets. The star of the day was Ben Villalobos, winning 2 of 3 sets and pushing Sunny's number player to a 6-6 tio, eventually losing in a close tiebreaker. The team had started league play 0-2, but will surely bounce back after spring break.

The new pond is slowly coming along and this week we took a big step towards completion. The cement has been poured on the floor of the pool and next week we plan and apply the cement to the side walls. A huge thank you to FJUHSD Construction and Projects Dept. for continuously working to complete this project with all the rain that has fallen in the last few weeks.
