Monday Athletic Update

Athletic Review

Athletic Director - Coach Joseph Olivas Assistant Athletic Director - Coach Kikey Ramos

Wrestling

This week FUHS had a great outcome for boys and girls. Starting with our Girls Varsity Wrestling, the girls took the Freeway League Championship on Senior Night going 5-0 in league and 2-0 in the city giving them the City Championship also. Unfortunately for the girls, CIF only has two divisions in the playoffs, and our girls just missed making the playoffs. Nevertheless, an amazing season for some amazing girls. Next for the girls will be the Freeway League Wrestling Finals at Sonora High School on Friday, February 2nd at 3:15pm.

The Boys Varsity Wrestling team also had a great week finishing 2nd in the Freeway League on Senior Night and also taking the City Championship by beating Sunny Hills and Troy. With an At-Large Bid for playoffs, the boys made their way into the CIF-SS Div. 4 playoffs. The boys were at Chino Hills High School this weekend! We will get an update on that match in this week's Friday newsletter!

Boys Basketball:

On Friday January 19th the boys varsity basketball team beat Buena Park by a score of 61-48. They took on cross town rival Troy on Monday 1/22. The Tribe was in control of the game, but a late bank 3 from Troy and a missed FT by Fullerton sent the game to overtime. Fullerton fell short in OT in a very pivotal game in the Freeway League. On Wednesday, they traveled to Sunny Hills to take on the Lancers. Fullerton was up 2 at half time, but again fell short to Sunny Hills in the end, splitting the season series with them 1-1. On Friday 1/26 we celebrated our seniors and their commitments to our program. We wish Isaiah Edwards, Saint Martinez, and Josiah Jessup the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Girls Basketball:

This was a very eventful week for girls basketball. They started off hosting Troy on Monday and unfortunately fell short after a back and forth start. Wednesday they lost to a very good Sunny Hills team on the road. They ended the week with their senior night at home against Sonora. It was a great night for our seniors and we wish Yesenia, Evelyn, and Julia luck in their next steps in life.

Cheer, Song, and STUNT:

Exciting week full of basketball games, Home and Away for our programs! We have loved participating in ASB’s themes! Our last home game of the regular season is Friday, January 26th against Sonora! Come out and support!

Our STUNT team is gearing up for our first showcase at Marina High School on February 5th! Our program is very excited for our team to hit the mat and show our progression from the season before. We also have a STUNT clinic on February 17th! This clinic is for ages 10-14 and our goal is to expand our community’s knowledge on STUNT the Sport!

Girls Soccer

Girl’s Soccer’s last two games left in the season were against Buena Park and Troy, both games tested the team’s character. However, we celebrated our 11 Seniors in their last home game vs Troy and as a team, we enjoyed our last team dinner together supplied by our booster club. We will miss our Seniors, but our teams are developing and looking forward to next season. Our Frosh-Soph team finished the year with a 1-0 win over Troy.

Boys soccer

The past week was filled with the emotion as the boys soccer team Faced difficult challenges fighting for their playoff life. Because of the rain the Sunny Hills game was postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday and it was also played at Buena Park. Our team fought to the last minute unfortunately, we lost 3-0.

On Friday, we played Sonora for our senior night and our team took out the Sunny Hills loss on Sonora by scoring six goals, while shutting at Sonora. It was a great tribute to our hard-working seniors and their families to have a great win on our last freeway league home game. Monday we face La Habra away and Wednesday We face Buena Park away. Those two games will decide whether or not we're gonna be in the playoffs Our entire coaching staff is so proud of the effort that our team is putting forth with all the injuries that we've had we battled to the last minute in all of our games. We are confident that our guys are going to step up and do what's necessary for us to make the playoffs. We have been in the CIF playoffs for the last seven years And are looking forward to competing this year.

Girls Water Polo:

Girls polo had a busy week starting off with the action packed close game to Buena Park. Followed by our end-of-season Carousel Tournament. Then going into the weekend against high-end teams at the Ayala Tournament. This coming Monday we play the Troy Warriors to decide placement for our final league game on Thursday. Come next Thursday as we celebrate our seniors Morgan McAndrew and Elizabeth Timmerman for the four years they donated to our team.
