Our cross-country teams competed at the OC Championships last Friday. The boys placed 4th in the small school varsity race and the girls placed 8th. The boys placed four runners inside the top 40 to record their highest finish at the OC Championships in the past two decades. Their team time of 83 minutes and 4 seconds (16:37 avg/3 mile race) placed them on Fullerton’s all-time team record list. The team was led by Alejandro Hernandez (17th, 16:14), Nathan Limon (20th, 16:16), Troy Fernandez (38th, 16:41), Jack Golla (40th, 16:43), Ryan Leitner (57th, 17:09), Daniel Frausto (75th, 17:40), and Brandon Miyasato (94th, 18:06).
The girls' team time of 104:28 is an average of 20:54 per girl for 3 miles and moves them up on Fullerton’s historical list for team time. Junior Morgan McAndrew led the girls with her 2nd place individual finish in a time of 18:25. Her time placed her14th fastest junior overall in the county. Other team members for varsity included Ansal Esquivias (44th, 20:32), Reagan Glidewell (58th, 21:00), Amy Ramos (69th, 21:32), and freshman Miley Basas (89th, 22:56). As a team, the girls placed 8th out of 15 with 217 points. Corona del Mar won the race with 44 points.
On Friday, Oct. 21st, the team competed in the Mt. Sac Invitational. The boys and girls ran a controlled effort as they geared up for Freeway League Finals in less than 2 weeks. The historic Mt. Sac is also the site of the CIF Prelims and Finals to be held in mid-November. The boys currently sit in 2nd place with a CIF spot inevitable while the girls have their sights on jumping from 4th to 3rd place to earn an entry into the CIF Prelims. Fullerton has not had a girls' team compete in CIF for 7 years while the boys have not competed there in 9 years. The next few weeks will be historic for both programs!
