A Message from Principal George Clement:
On Monday, January 16, we will celebrate and remember one of my personal heroes, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
A master of the word and a champion of deeds, King changed a nation and individual lives. I admire his integrity.
While he challenged his detractors to aspire to higher ideals, he also demanded his supporters demonstrate the highest ideals.
His “I Have A Dream Speech,” is one of the great masterworks of the English language. The sentence, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character," has relevance today.
A person could highlight every sentence from his “Letter From a Birmingham Jail,” because it is a gift that opens unto a mountain of wisdom.
Mr. Doug Calenda, one of our substitute teachers, and I share a love for King’s short book, Strength to Love, because it inspires the mind, heart, and soul.
While we ponder and vow to improve the state of civil rights in our nation today and on Monday, I encourage folks to read any of his writings to experience Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the world’s great treasures.
I also encourage everyone to participate in events in your communities that help others and promote civil rights.
