ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear Parents/Guardians,

While this may be the worst kept secret of the spring, I would like to formally announce one new hire for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year, say goodbye to two staff leaving at the end of the 2023-24 school year, and welcome two new hires at Immac for the 2024-25 school year.

A few weeks ago, Mrs. Lorena Herrera Menares joined the Immac student support services (SSS) department. Mrs. Herrera joined us from Rossland and has already worked her way into our classrooms supporting students as needed. Don’t let her quiet demeanor fool you! Mrs. Herrera is a fully certified teacher (Chile) and will crack the whip when needed to make sure our students are supported and on task! Welcome to the Immac family, Mrs. Herrera.

At the end of this year Mrs. Schaad will be leaving us. Mrs. Schaad and her husband will be moving to the Land of the Rising Sun. Mrs. Schaad has taught ESL in Japan previously and once again feels the call to head back to Asia. Thank you for all you’ve done at Immac (including the tech support for staff!). We wish you all the best and will keep your family in our prayers.

Also at the end of this year Mrs. Weidner will be leaving Immac, for just a little bit. Mrs. Weider is working on a master’s degree focusing on clinical counselling. Mrs. Weidner is planning on taking a yearlong sabbatical to complete her studies and required practicum work and plans to return to Immac for the 2025-26 school year. In addition to her fulltime studies, Mrs. Weidner will also be welcoming a new member to her family. Yes, Mrs. Weidner has a baby bump! No, she has not been eating too many Doritos! Mrs. Weidner’s baby is due in October. CONGRATULATIONS Weidners!

Obviously with staff leaving, there are some new staff joining the Immac family. I am very pleased to share with you that for the 2024-25 school year Immac has hired Ms. Allison Pellegrini. Ms. Pellegrini will be taking over for Mrs. Schaad. Ms. Pellegrini is quadrilingual (French, Spanish, ASL, and English). Ms. Pellegrini, a Kelowna local, is coming off a break from teaching. We are excited to have Ms. Pellegrini join us for the 2024-25 school year!

Immac has also hired Mrs. Jasmine De Smet. Mrs. De Smet, a St. Joe’s mom, has been working at Heritage Christian Online School for just about 10 years in an administrative role. Mrs. De Smet is very, very excited to get back into the classroom and we are delighted to have her join the Immac family for the 2024-25 school year. Welcome to Immac Mrs. De Smet!

It is a blessing to work with such dedicated and professional staff. The 2024-25 school year is already shaping up to be fantastic. I am very excited for the 2024-25 school year (and for Mrs. Weidner’s baby…I love babies!).

In Christ,

-Mr. P

ACHIEVEMENTS

FLOWER DELIVERY

Last Friday, just in time for Mother’s Day, the Horticulture and Religion 11classes walked across the street to deliver 60 planted flower pots to gift residents at Good Samaritan Mountain Village. This yearly tradition has become a treasured event for both the ones who plant the flowers and the recipients. Thank you also to Byland’s Nursery next door for the discount towards the materials used for the planted pots.

GOLF TEAM

The second leg of the golf season is complete. Immaculata played in tournaments at the Okanagan Golf Club (4th), Sunset Ranch (2nd), and the City Championships at Gallaghers Canyon (4th). The Mustangs are traveling to Kamloops next week to play at Rivershore Golf Club for the Okanagan Valley Championships. Individually Markus Hopley finished tied for 2nd at Sunset Ranch, and 5th at Gallaghers Canyon. With 8 teams and over 40 golfers participating every week, the team has been quite successful. Wish the Mustangs luck as they head off to Valleys!

TOONIES FOR TUITION

Did you know that, across Canada, elementary and secondary students have varied access to Catholic education? In some provinces and territories, Catholic education is fully funded. In others, it is partially funded. And in still other provinces, no government funding whatsoever is provided for Catholic education, making it a luxury out of reach to many students and families.  Read More

Thank you for your support through the year!

Blessed Virgin Mary, holy Mother of God, I ask You to join me today in prayer, Filled with gratitude that, with the Lord, We are one in communion of faith. When I’m not quite sure what God desires of me, May greater awareness be His gift. Because I am imperfect, May I, in sorrow, humbly seek forgiveness. In the future choices that I make, May the Holy Spirit be my guide. Holy Mary, please pray that we will meet In heaven’s glorious eternity. Amen.
