Prison Enterprises Director Michael Moore Wins 2019 National Correctional Industries Association's Rodli Award
Award recognizes Nation's top correctional industries director
BATON ROUGE, La. –  The National Correctional Industries Association (NCIA) recently awarded Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections' Michael Moore the 2019 Rodli Award. The award recognizes the nation's top correctional industries director/administrator. Moore has served as director of Prison Enterprises for the Department since 2009. He began his career in corrections in 1993 as an accounting supervisor for Prison Enterprises.

"I'm proud of Mike for receiving this award, and for his many accomplishments and dedication and hard work to the Department," said Jimmy Le Blanc, secretary, Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. "Mike and his staff do a tremendous job in providing vocational and educational opportunities for our inmates, while producing quality products for our corrections department, as well as state and local government entities and non-profit organizations."

Prison Enterprises, a division of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, operates a diverse group of industry, agriculture and service programs located at eight correctional facilities throughout Louisiana. Correctional Industries is a unique blend of business and government providing a public service. These industries offer work opportunities that teach inmates valuable skills, as well as a work ethic and a sense of responsibility; all of which are vital for eventual reentry to society and the security of the institutions. In addition, Prison Enterprises also strives to provide quality products and services to its customers at competitive prices. The trades inmates learn in Prison Enterprises' operations include sewing, carpentry, welding, printing, embroidery, silk screening and farming.

NCIA presented Moore with the 2019 Rodli Award in April at its National Training Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. NCIA is an international nonprofit professional association whose members represent federal, state, county and international Correctional Industry agencies, as well as suppliers and partners in apprenticeship and work programs.

Moore currently serves as an elected "At-Large Board Member" on the NCIA Board of Directors. Prior to that, he served as Treasurer of NCIA from January 1, 2017 - December 31, 2018 and as Regional Appointee for the South Central Region from 2013-2016. He has been a member on the NCIA Program Development, Awards and Audit Committees and served as Chairman of the 2014 and 2015 Audit Committees.
