Help open doors to employment and housing opportunities for our clients - with just three hours of your time!
Join us for our next expunction working session, sponsored by the Wake County Bar Association, on Thursday, February 19th, 2 - 5 PM, at Legal Aid of North Carolina's offices at 1425 Promise Beacon Circle, Suite 201, Raleigh.
What happens during a session?
Volunteers receive a case that has been prepped and reviewed for eligibility (we assist clients with dismissed charges and non-violent convictions from under age 18). NC DOJ Honors UNC School of Law and
Legal Aid of NC for Spring Break Pro Bono Project
On February 13, the North Carolina Department of Justice will celebrate the students and attorneys who developed and participated in UNC School of Law's pro bono project over spring break in March of last year. Through this project, UNC Law students and members of Legal Aid of NC's Pro Bono and Disaster Relief teams assisted clients with applications for federal assistance and insurance claims in Boone and Burnsville in the wake of Hurricane Helene. We're so honored to be recognized alongside our dedicated partners for this important work!

Hannah E. Miller
Catawba County
Hannah, an attorney and advocate serving Newton, Hickory, and Catawba counties, assists clients in divorce proceedings and with child custody, spousal support, and property division matters. In addition to her busy practice, Hannah is an advocate in her community, volunteering with the Women's Resource Center for Separation and Divorce, Family Guidance Center, and serving as a contract attorney with Legal Aid of NC, representing domestic violence survivors. Hannah shares: "Assisting domestic violence clients through Legal Aid has afforded me the opportunity to invest in my community β the same community that has invested in me. Itβs my way to simply pay it forward. What I provide is more than just legal advocacy. It is a privilege to have my clients trust me when they are in their most vulnerable state. During the process, I have witnessed them find courage within themselves. I have seen them come to realize that they too are worthy of respect, safety, and happiness. For me, it is about the client being heard and recognizing they are not alone in their situation. More than not, most of us know someone who has been in a domestic violence relationship. It is my chance to help someone come out of that darkness, believe in themselves, and breathe again." Thank you, Hannah, for all that you do for our clients!

Stout
Chicago, IL
Over the past year, Legal Aid of NC has partnered with Stout, an international advisory firm, to review and refine data within our housing practice. The overall goal of the project is to better tell the story of the clients and communities we serve and how we serve them. Engaging in intentional, thoughtful, and comprehensive data analytics allows us to better illustrate the impact of our housing work, improve internal systems, and track trends statewide. Stout has made this work possible by contributing dozens of pro bono hours to this project, advising us on how to best capture and use this data to shape our advocacy and strategy for the future. Thanks to Samantha DiDomenico and Neil Steinkamp for their dedication to this project!
