Dear Friends:

Happy end of summer, everyone. I hope that you are as thankful as I am that this August 29 passed by quietly in New Orleans.

I am steadily busy with legislative duties, campaign work, and being a regular person, lawyer, and new aunt. The fun never stops. :)

We have many opportunities for you and your friends to become more involved in my campaign for the open state senate seat. See below for dates and times for coffees, happy hours, and.....my birthday party on Tuesday, September 20th! We are doing really well canvassing, and encourage all friends to sign up for a shift or two, or send us high school & college students with their endless energy. Click here to sign up to canvass, PHONE BANK, or to request a sign. We have yard signs as well as great big ones with my face on it to show your support for bold, progressive politics in New Orleans.

All contributions are very meaningful to me. Angel contributions of the $2500 max help me to (occasionally) breathe a sigh of relief that all bills will be paid by November 8. As a reminder, I'd be the only pro choice female senator in the state. Yes, the only one.

Money + doors = the key to winning. We are about to enter the most critical time in this campaign, & financial contributions are a necessity. If you want to help elect a progressive, pro choice, hardworking Louisiana legislator who has increased state investments in maternal health, worked to improve drainage and hazard mitigation, and is committed to ending gun violenceDONATE NOW

EVENTS

We have several easy to attend events coming up that you should put on your calendars. Graphics and calendar invites are below. Here is a short list:

CAMPAIGN NEWS

I've received several quality endorsements! The Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO has endorsed me; as you know, my dad was a member of the local plumber's union, and they awarded me a college scholarship. The local unions helped tremendously on my last successful race.

I was recently awarded the endorsement of the nationally known Everytown for Gun Safety. It is a lonely, uphill battle to promote sensible gun safety legislation in Louisiana, but I will not stop until we see some progress. Louisiana ranks in the top 5 states with the highest gun ownership and gun deaths. We can and will do better.

The local Alliance for Good Government endorsed me as well, because of my success at passing good government legislation. For example, this year I passed HB 160, which protects tenants from eviction immediately after a federal disaster. We saw a pressing need for this after Hurricane Ida, when many hurricane victims were kicked out of their homes, and we addressed it in less than a year. A strong coalition of advocates, Democrats, Republicans, and the Governor's office worked hard to pass this good government legislation.

LEGISLATIVE, & LEGISLATION, UPDATE

We recently sent out a detailed summary of the 2022 Louisiana legislative session. Please click through for information on dozens of bills and proposed constitutional amendments on the November 8, 2022, ballot.

The Louisiana Legislature may be in recess, but state politics never stops. Attorney General Jeff Landry No Relation continues to hold hostage state money intended for the New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board because of the city's support for abortion rights. We are not yet sure when his tantrum will end and the city can receive the money it needs for this important project. The one thing I do know is that New Orleanians are not a fan of "General Landry."

The litigation challenging the state's unconstitutional trigger bans is at a standstill while on appeal. Abortion will remain prohibited in Louisiana indefinitely pending a miracle. If you need abortion care, call New Orleans Abortion Fund, or seek out an abortion fund in a state that you will have to travel to for care (such as Illinois, New York, New Mexico, etc.).
