Several weeks ago, we shared with you the horrific news of a Toledo area physician whose medical license was suspended for fraudulently acquiring the abortion pill and forcing his girlfriend to take it, resulting in the death of their unborn child.
News has broken that on Wednesday, he was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury on six felony counts. They are Abduction (F3), Tampering with Evidence (F3), Unlawful Distribution of an abortion-inducing drug (F4), Disrupting public services (F4), Identify Fraud (F5), and Deception to obtain a dangerous drug (F5).
Notably missing from the list of indictments are any assault charges as well as the numerous Ohio laws under 2903 that relate to killing an unborn child by harming its mother. These range from Aggravated Murder, Murder, Voluntary & Involuntary Manslaughter, to various Assault charges.
Practically, these laws are distinct from the abortion laws and are related to cases where someone hurts the mother and kills or harms the unborn child. They are typically used in cases related to drunk driving, domestic violence, assault, etc.
We’ve not seen the full deliberations of the grand jury, and it is worth noting that the victim’s attorney notes that the present indictments do not mean that there are not more coming. We’ll continue to monitor this case.
