A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Wow! We cannot believe that the academic year is around the corner and that summer is almost over. The Pro-Vision, Inc. staff and members have been busy building life and leadership skills.
This summer's theme was leveling-up leadership style. Members were not the only ones focusing on their own development, staff was also. They took time to participate in simulations that helped them understand and connect them better to the communities we serve. It also helped them develop an empathy and understanding that helps one do their job with more passion and purpose, resulting in better outcomes. I'm proud of the staff's hard work and all of their achievements and recognitions received this summer.
As you review our newsletter we hope that you are inspired and motivated to level-up in a way that helps and inspires you.
Sincerely,
|

Character Development Summer Field Trip |
The Character Development S.H.E. and Manhood Leadership Summer Retreat was held on July 20-22 in Galveston, Texas. Members of the S.H.E. and Manhood Character Development Program enjoyed an excursion that would create a learning, sharing, and unifying experience for each of them.
During the retreat, members participated in skill-building lessons, including leadership practices, relationship building, and community service. The greatest impact occurred as students were inspired by guest speakers during the mental health presentation. Participants were able to learn about mental health, recognize warning signs of mental health circumstances, and what steps to take if you or a loved one are showing symptoms of a mental health condition.
As well, program members enjoyed a tour of the Historical AME Reedy Church and the Galveston Historical Foundation’s experience, And Still We Rise…Galveston’s Juneteenth Story.
To complete the two-day excursion, group participants summarizes their takeaways with an essay about what they learned and hope to act on in the upcoming academic year within their personal lives, academic studies, and Character Development Program.

Character Development Events
Members of our S.H.E. and Manhood Character Development Program were invited on fishing excursions hosted by our friends at Hero Adventures this Spring.
All the members, volunteers and parents had a fantastic time fishing on Lake Conroe and caught over 50 fish on each trip! The wonderful experience added to Earth Day discussions and encouraged an appreciation and respect for the environment. Thank you to Hero Adventures and our chaperones for making this a memorable experience for all of our young men and young women!

The Pro-Vision, Inc. Character Development S.H.E program hosted a Women and Girls in STEM Forum at Pro-Vision Academy to inspire the next generation of women for work in sciences, technology, engineering and math.
Special thanks to our amazing speakers Mrs. Nicole Harris, Executive Director & Founder of Today’s Youth , Ms. LaJoia Walker, Senior Reliability Engineering Consultant for Dupont and Ms. Tahchiona Smith, First Officer at JSX, for taking the time out of their busy schedules to come and speak at the forum and encourage the young girls in attendance.

Join us in congratulating all the Seniors, which included our Manhood and S.H.E. members that participate in our Character Development program.
The majority of our Character Development program members are the first in their family to attend college. While this transition is exciting, it is also very costly. Pro-Vision, Inc. is giving each eligible Senior attending college in the fall a College Care Package to help make their big move to college feel a little easier.
These College Care Packages will include dorm room essentials, a laptop, school supplies and a gift card for food and gas.
Thank you to all of our wonderful donors who contributed towards this campaign and sponsored a Senior for a successful start to their college career.

"To be a part of Pro-Vision means that I am a part of a vision that will change the lives of so many, especially our children. Pro-Vision makes it clear to me that we have the ability to change our communities for the better forever. It is a vision that acknowledges the rights of every single person in this country- the right to housing, healthy food and a relevant education. It is a vision that acknowledges that we are all in this together, no one person is expected to carry life’s burdens or celebrations alone. Pro-Vision inspires hope, joy and gives me a sense of purpose." - Diane Maben.

The Job Enterprise Program gives participants of the S.H.E. and Manhood Character Development Program the opportunity to intern with Houston-area companies. These internships expose the members to different leadership styles and work environments. Job Enterprise is comprehensive, offering members the personal mentoring necessary to direct our students to a self-sustaining future.
This summer, Character Development is pleased to announce the selection of two Pro-Vision/ McNair Urban Farm interns, Messiah Bogany and Vincent Ford. Recent Pro-Vision Academy graduates, both young men were exceptional members of the Manhood Program and demonstrated initiative and eagerness to learn invaluable professional resources.
In addition to agricultural skills, the interns learn marketing, accounting, sustainable land use practices, and design. The breadth of learning opportunities at the urban farm makes the experience beneficial to our interns, no matter their desired vocation.

PRO-VISION/MCNAIR URBAN FARM |
We are making upgrades to our Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm! Some recent upgrades include a new bead filtration system, a new water quality testing system that will test for chemical imbalances, and two new sump and pump filters that will help us be more efficient and modernize and help us grow double the produce. We have also continued collaborating with professionals in the agricultural industry to advance our technology in the greenhouse to be more efficient.
Our urban farm is an inner-city community pillar and tool, and our continued upgrades will help us serve more in the Sunnyside community.

We would like to thank the River Oaks Garden Club and the Garden Club of Houston for their generous grant donations for our Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm and Community Garden. The money from these grants will help continue to serve others with healthy food options.
As an inner-city community pillar and tool, it is important to us that the Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm and Community remain modern, multi-functioning, and ever evolving. This grant is a tremendous help with that effort. THANK YOU!

My name is Dante Tillman and I’m a alumni member of the Manhood Development Program at Pro-Vision, Inc. I graduated from the Pro-Vision Academy in 2020 and I’m currently a Sophomore at Prairie View A&M University majoring in Agricultural. I wanted to personally thank the River Oaks Garden Club and the Garden Club of Houston for their generous contribution to the Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm and Community Garden and Outreach Program.
Being a Manhood Development Program and Job Enterprise member, I had the opportunity to work and volunteer at both the Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm and Community Garden during the summers and found a passion for both farming and gardening. During my internships at the Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm I learned and practice agricultural skills that I never knew existed. By the end of my first summer working at the farm I was so intrigued that when I graduated, I decided to continue my education in Agriculture. My goal is to graduate and come back to work at the Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm.
Volunteering at the Community Garden also taught me new skills in gardening. I was able to learn how to take care of all the soil, garden beds and grow fresh vegetables. Within a couple of weeks, we would harvest, and hand deliver the fresh produce we grew in the garden to our Sunnyside Community. I also found gardening very calming and therapeutic. One of the reasons I joined the Manhood Development Program was to learn how to channel my emotions and focus my energies on positive activities. Gardening was an avenue for me to be able to be mindful and make decisions that are directed to improving my life and helping others. Working on the farm and Community Garden has impacted me in great ways. It has given me an educational focus, a career, and an interest to teach others about Agriculture.
Once again thank you for your support and helping improve the lives of young people like myself and others in the Sunnyside Community.
Sincerely,

Pro-Vision, Inc.'s
Housing Initiative
|
Pro-Vision, Inc.’s model aims to develop an entire ecosystem of social stability within a community. This aim cannot be accomplished without exceptional, but affordable, and mixed income housing.
The Housing Initiative will transform underused, industrial, and inner-city properties, in a once desolate and forgotten neighborhood, into a large and thriving affordable housing community. This activity of the model not only assumes that improved housing stock will enhance the physical space of a neighborhood, but it will also enhance community members’ well-being and civic responsibility. The Housing Initiative will consist of multi-phase plan to create a 400-unit master-planned community for mixed income families—low and moderate-income, as well as single-family, multi-family, senior living, a community center and green space. Stay tuned for exciting updates!
