The new year is here! This is a time not only for recharge but also a chance to consciously work towards our goals in the coming year. In this spirit and with immense gratitude, Character Development will continue to focus on program expansion and new opportunities for our members in the new year.
We are especially grateful for Pro-Vision Inc.'s leadership, donors, parent volunteers, alumni participants, and student members that made all our accomplishments possible in 2022. At the same time, we have strengthened our resolve to achieve greater program goals and reduce the challenges our young people are facing. Moreover, our focus on helping young people discover and move toward their life's purpose keeps us motivated and moving in the right direction. This formidable spirit of fortitude will continue to motivate us each day in 2023 and beyond!

Last year, the Character Development programs shifted significantly to coexist with COVID-19. As a result, we were able to adopt program health protocols that permitted in-person mentoring to resume safely. The pandemic challenges brought opportunities for service through community health initiatives that encouraged health awareness and reduced health disparities.
Additionally, 2022 brought the opportunity for on-campus in-person mentoring through the implementation of Character Development Tier II at Pro-Vision Academy. Through this exciting initiative, we have expanded our influence and provided Character Education to a greater number of Pro-Vision Academy students with a focus on standards such as moral character, responsible & ethical decision-making, social awareness, self-management, and high school readiness.
As we move into the new year, we are optimistic about what lies ahead. We look forward to continued program growth as we fulfill our mission of inspiring hope and purpose in young people, families, and communities.

Character Development members have volunteered their time to the Harris County Health Department, Houston Food Bank, Pro-Vision McNair Urban Farm, and street clean-up projects.

Expanding Character Development to include SEL (Social, Emotional, Learning) and Character Education during the school day has increased our student reach.

PRO-VISION/MCNAIR URBAN FARM | The Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm went through some exciting upgrades. The urban farm system in the greenhouse was redesigned from a media bed system into a bead filtration system. The bead filtration system separates the operation of the plants and fish. Our Urban farm staff is now able to add nutrients to the plants without relying on fish waste to provide the nutrients. |
Our urban farm staff has also implemented GAP (Good Agriculture Practices). We receive annual audits to ensure our policies and operation are aligned with state laws, the FDA, OSHA, and USDA. Employees receive training on food safety, GAP, hygiene, risk management, first aid, and many more. |

Bead Filtration System
Our new system helped decrease our growth cycle time by 40%, allowing for a potential 10% increase in revenue.

In the past, we would lose all our crops in crises such as a city water shutdown, power outages, and statewide freezes. The new generator kicks on immediately in the event of a power outage. The heaters provide our fish and plants the opportunity to survive cold temperatures allowing our operations to run smoothly. |

Housing Initiative
| Pro-Vision Villages at Chocolate Bayou is Pro-Vision, Inc's upcoming housing initiative that will have more than 400 units of affordable mixed housing for families who are learning to be homeowners and contributing citizens for the betterment of their community. Pro-Vision, Inc. has secured additional land adjacent to Pro-Vision Academy and proposes this master-planned community to have a stabilizing and sustaining effect on the Sunnyside Community. The housing initiative will leverage Pro-Vision, Inc.'s extensive investment in the Sunnyside Community. | |

Pro-Vision, Inc. made an incredible difference in the lives of 27 families and over 100 lives in the Sunnyside community through the Spirit of Giving this holiday season. As a part of the holiday gifting, the children of the recipients were invited to choose their own toys from over 200 educational toys, books, and games. | |

Throughout the years, Pro-Vision, Inc. has transformed into an organization that has fine-tuned its mission to help transform young lives, who can then impact their communities near and wide. Our core programs develop educated, financially independent, community-minded young leaders who will work to create systemic change in underserved, economically disadvantaged areas across Houston.
Our Pro-Vision, Inc’s Young Professionals Group, are men and women ages 21 through 40 who are committed to supporting Pro-Vision, Inc.’s mission through philanthropy, volunteerism, and raising awareness within the Houston community. Members participate in networking and social events, #GivingTuesday, and volunteer at community events.
