Volunteer Spotlight

Amily McCool · Scharff Law Firm · Raleigh

Raleigh attorney and former Legal Aid NC lawyer Amily McCool (she/her) is successfully winding down a four-year pro bono case for a client of our Fair Housing Project.

Our client alleged she was sexually assaulted by an employee while staying in a domestic violence shelter and retaliated against for complaining about the harassment. She filed a fair housing administrative complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

As part of the resolution of the case, our client is receiving nearly $60,000 in compensation, other victims are also receiving compensation, and attorney's fees were awarded.

Amily attributes her success to Fair Housing Project co-director Kelly Clarke, who supported her throughout the case. "I couldn't have done it without her!" Amily said.

Thank you and congratulations, Amily!
