SchoolSafety.gov Launches to Help Educators, Administrators, Parents, and Law Enforcement Prepare for Threats

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Department of Education (ED), U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) created SchoolSafety.gov to share actionable recommendations to keep school communities safe.

SchoolSafety.gov aims to help schools prevent, protect, mitigate, respond to, and recover from emergency situations.
New Campaign Against Unregulated Gaming Machines

The American Gaming Association (AGA) and the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) announced a new partnership to combat the unchecked spread of unregulated gaming machines throughout the United States.

The ongoing campaign will focus on providing state and local policymakers, law enforcement, and regulatory agencies with new resources and tools to stop the proliferation of unregulated gaming machines.
Bureau of Justice Assistance Call for Peer Reviewers

The U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance is seeking subject experts with diverse professional backgrounds across various criminal justice fields . Reviewers will participate remotely and will review 5 to 15 applications within a two-week period. If interested, please send an email with "Peer Reviewer Candidate Resume" in the subject line to BJAreviewer@ojp.usdoj.gov . A current resume/CV and a valid e-mail address must be included.
Navigating Post-Conviction Claims of Factual Innocence and Exonerations: Information & Resources for Prosecutors, Victim Service Providers and
Allied Professionals 
A new website has been dedicated to assisting crime victims and survivors in the post-conviction setting. The website offers key information and resources for navigating complex cases involving claims of innocence and exonerations, an emerging area of victim services.  

The website, developed in partnership with the Office for Victims of Crime , will help you and your colleagues:

  • Mitigate the emotional distress experienced by victims post-conviction 
  • Provide victims with respect, agency, choice and control 
  • Ensure victims’ safety and security 
  • Regain victims’ trust in the criminal justice system
  • Re-engage victims in future proceedings

Stanford Study on Prosecutorial Decision Making
Stanford University researchers are seeking participants for a research study on prosecutorial decision making. The study will systematically explore how line prosecutors weigh various factors (e.g., criminal history) that may shape their decisions about cases. The goal is to use empirical insights to design evidence-based ways to better support prosecutors and optimize their performance. Research Study on Plea Bargains
Doctoral student Anna Vaynman at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is conducting a research study related to plea bargain decision making. NDAA members are invited to take the short 5-10 minutes survey, which involves reading a short case summary and answering a few questions regarding your judgment of the case and your legal experience. Participants enter to win a $10 Amazon gift card. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Survey
The ASPCA Legal Advocacy Department has launched a survey to help develop resources to support prosecutors and law enforcement officers in their efforts against the cruelty to animals. This survey will take between 10-15 minutes and can be completed here.
