The webinar takes a deeper dive into the DOJ’s efforts in detecting, investigating and prosecuting wrongdoing related to the coronavirus global pandemic. It includes the U.S. Attorney General’s creation of the COVID-19 Hoarding and Price Gouging Task Force, as well as best practices from the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office in California.

Hate crimes have become a pressing concern due to the COVID-19 outbreak. NDAA member
Jeffery Rosen, District Attorney, Santa Clara County, CA helped develop a PSA to address the problem. Please use and distribute it as you see fit.

Many prosecutors’ offices expressed concern over being unprepared to move to remote work. To assist in this matter,
CNA and NDAA created a document that includes the key steps organizations should take to prepare employees for remote work, as well as other pertinent information.

The spread of the novel coronavirus has shifted large swaths of the country’s population to a virtual environment, abandoning the physical office space and opening up a whole new arena of challenges impacting communities and the criminal justice system. The increased virtual nature of work means a proliferation and enhanced risk of cybercriminals looking to exploit concerns surrounding public health by luring individuals into sharing sensitive information.

As COVID-19 continues to spread, focus has been placed on those age 60 and older and those with underlying conditions, deeming them as “vulnerable populations.” One demographic that has not gotten much attention yet faces challenges of its own: children. Children are more vulnerable to abuse, neglect and sexual exploitation during these challenging times.

The internet can be a critical tool for children during this coronavirus pandemic and the closure of educational institutions nationwide. However,
the increased online access also comes with risks, such as inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and online predators. Children on the internet are more than ever susceptible to online adult predators posing as children

Victims of intimate partner violence are isolated, manipulated, and controlled by their abuser. Their isolation often cuts them off from potential support systems, which is why it is so difficult for them to come forward and seek help. The public health crisis surrounding COVID-19, also known as coronavirus, has magnified the dangers that these victims already face every day.
