The Feast of St. Blaise:

The Blessing of the Throats

Bishop Brennan celebrated Mass at the Pastoral Center last week and blessed the throats of his Diocesan staff in honor of the Feast Day of St. Blaise, patron saint of throat ailments.

Traditionally, Catholics get their throats blessed, praying for the intercession of St. Blaise to protect against disease and other illness on St. Blaise's Feast Day.

Bishop Brennan celebrates Vietnamese New Year

Bishop Brennan celebrated Tết also known as Vietnamese New Year at Our Lady of La Vang in Fresno! Following the Mass was a beautiful celebration with the Vietnamese community.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. The Marjaree Mason Center's goal is to raise awareness and provide education to students and teens about healthy relationships and the importance of recognizing the signs of dating abuse.

A Workshop on the Vocation of Consecrated Virginity is available for those interested in learning more about Consecrated Virginity on Sunday, February 23rd at the Shrine of St. Thérèse in Fresno. The workshop will be available in English and Spanish.

English session: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Spanish session: 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM

Blessing Bags

St. Francis Parish School, Bakersfield

The 2nd graders at St. Francis School in Bakersfield created Blessing Bags for those in need.

The students decorated the bags with their beautiful art and filled them with donated essentials.

25 Years of Perpetual Adoration

St. Brigid Church, Hanford

Pictured left to right: Fr. Dan Avila, who opened the chapel on January 1st, 2000 while he was pastor at St. Brigid and Fr. Cesar Solorio, their current pastor.

St. Brigid Church in Hanford celebrated 25 years of perpetual adoration with a special Mass celebrated by Fr. Dan Avila and Fr. Cesar Solorio on January 17th.

The Mass was followed by a reception to celebrate the faithful who have dedicated their days and nights to spending time with our Lord in the Chapel.

To celebrate the Feast of St. Brigid on February 1st, the parish prayed a rosary novena, celebrated Mass and had a community celebration!

Health & Nursing Ministry

Faith Community Nurses Retreat

The Health and Nursing Ministry held a Faith Community Nurses Retreat at the St. Paul Catholic Newman Center in Fresno on January 25th. They were joined by 11 faith community nurses from several different parishes in the Diocese.

A special thank you to Msgr. Raymond Dreiling and Cheryl Sarkisian for leading the reflection on The Three Ordinary Voices of God, a book by Matthew Kelly at the retreat!
