Catechetical Ministries in Motion
St. Mary of the Desert, Rosamond
As confirmation programs wind down for the year, most parishes have either had their Confirmation Program’s retreat or perhaps, they may be just around the corner. Last Saturday on May 13, I had the opportunity to provide a confirmation retreat for the parish of St. Mary of the Desert in Rosamond. Having done one not too long ago with our Youth and Young Adult Ministry Coordinator, Eli Medina, in Bishop, there were a couple of new things that I was looking forward in incorporating into this retreat as I was inspired by a couple of things that came up. As always, I want to thank the parish team for inviting me to share in this retreat along with their time and efforts in helping with the preparations.
One of the sessions that I began with was focused on allowing the students to contemplate and reflect upon the journey they had begun since Baptism and the steps they have taken to get to the point to where they find themselves now and the reason and purpose for it.
Wherever we find ourselves, we are here for the purpose of being in a relationship with our Creator. A relationship with God is the meaning and purpose of human life. When people do not know why they are here, they sometimes find life meaningless and may end up broken and empty. If we don’t know why we are on this Earth, we may not know our destination in life, and if we do not know our destination in life, we may not have direction. To have hope, we need direction.
