A Guide on Faithful Citizenship: Non-Partisanship
Last week, a court filing was issued regarding the Johnson Amendment and how the IRS interprets the relationship between houses of worship and political participation.
We have coordinated with the USCCB and our Diocesan legal counsel and we'd like to remind you that our Church's role in American political life has not changed.
We strongly urge you to review our Guide on Faithful Citizenship (click here to view) which we sent out last year. Please note the section titled Non - Partisanship which states:
Entities with an IRS-designation 501(c)(3) which include our diocese and all of its sites, are prohibited from participating in political campaign activity. Our sites are not permitted to endorse a politician or political group in any way.
Failure to comply with this guidance could result in legal consequences, as it would compromise the Diocese's 501(c)3 status.
If you have any questions regarding your parish's role in American political life, please feel free to contact me anytime.
