"Come and See" Discernment Retreat

Pray for Vocations

The Diocese of Fresno's Vocations office recently held their annual "Come and See" Priesthood Discernment Retreat at St. Anthony Retreat Conference Center in Three Rivers.

They were blessed with the presence of 31 men at the discernment retreat! We ask the Faithful for their prayers as these men listen for God's call in their lives.

World Youth Day with SAYA

St. Anthony of Padua - Fresno Young Adults

St. Anthony of Padua – Fresno Young Adults (SAYA) represented the Diocese of Fresno in Portugal at World Youth Day with Pope Francis. Many ask how the Church can ignite the flames of faith in our young people.

World Youth Day touches the lives of these young people in a special way. It is one thing to say that the word catholic means Universal, it is something totally different to see and experience first-hand. Our young people got the opportunity to see other young people from around the world pray, play, and experience what it truly means to be One Universal Catholic Church.

Early that day, our SAYA group woke up to a beautiful sunrise at Campo da Graca for Holy Mass - the Missa de envio (sending mass) this mass marked the official end of our WYD23 pilgrimage.

It was an amazing pilgrimage full of surprises, blessings and graces. We thank our pastor Msgr. Rob, our St. Anthony of Padua community, and our family and friends for all of their support and prayers and for making our pilgrimage possible.

Our SAYA young adults are true pilgrims. Our first reaction to our young adults raising money to go to Portugal is plush hotels and incredible sites to see. Here is the hard reality. All they have is what they can carry on their back.

Accommodations included sleeping bags and finding a place on the grass. It is a true sacrifice to experience this once in a lifetime spiritual journey to receive guidance from the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Welcome home to our

St. Anthony of Padua pilgrims!

Catechetical Ministries

Catechetical Ministries in Motion

St. Mary, Sanger

About two weeks ago, I was invited to St. Mary’s in Sanger to share a talk with youth altar servers. I wanted to thank Fr. Javier Flores and Leonel and Magda Valdovinos for the invitation, setting up the event and their warm hospitality. And of course, the rest of the parish staff and volunteers that were involved along with the children and youth in attendance.

When Leonel and Magda first approached me with the possibility of sharing this type of talk, I was very intrigued on what the possibility might be as to how to approach it. Even though I have experience training adult and youth altar servers I had never composed something specific for youth altar servers that would address the potential challenges youth and children might face either through social or cultural situations. So, in composing my talks and topics, I took into consideration of course practical guidance in the service of this ministry and Liturgical elements, but I also wanted to include the vocational aspect of this ministry and how as youth and children they can begin to not only answer the Lord’s call at even a young age but to be able to begin to discern and possibly discover their vocations.
