Catechetical Ministries in Motion
St. Anthony of Padua, Reedley
This past Saturday, January 7, Rosie (Director of the Office of Formation and Evangelization), Eli (our Youth and Young Adult Ministry coordinator), and I had the opportunity to offer the parish community of St. Anthony of Padua in Reedley a spiritual retreat, simultaneously in English and Spanish, that focused on the Epiphany of our Lord and the gifts we bring to Him. We would like to thank Fr. Denny Joseph and his staff and volunteers for helping us in coordinating this event along with their wonderful hospitality and of course to all of those that participated and brought a wonderful energy to this retreat to start off the new year.
The focus of the topics for the day were actually an inspiration for the last article I wrote. We focused on putting ourselves in the presence of those that are depicted in the story of the Nativity Scene and asked ourselves to ponder as to what gifts we can bring to the Lord. The other focuses of the retreat were in discovering and identifying our gifts and in implementing them in and through the community we serve in.
Just like the story of the little drummer boy, even though he isn’t reflected in scripture, but we know of his story through song, that had nothing more to offer the infant Jesus but a humble song with his drum or the boy in the multiplication of loaves which is reflected in scripture. We all have something to offer Christ. We all have a gift, or gifts given to us freely. The significance of which is determined by the intentions we have in offering them.
