Continued Formation during Summer Break
Summer can be a strange time for people who work or volunteer as ministry leaders. On the one hand, it can feel like your ministry has slowed down. You might not have programs running anymore or other regular classes. And sometimes if you do offer something during the Summer, attendance can be lacking. The issue might not be that your parish and ministries don’t provide opportunities for summer faith formation. It’s perhaps that sometimes those opportunities might be less consistent.
One of the things for some individuals during the Summer break might also be that time seems to fly by in whatever we do. It can be a potential headache for those charged with programming education and faith formation opportunities. There is no doubt that summer can offer a challenge to the norm, but I encourage you to see ways in which these disruptions can open exciting possibilities for innovation and experimentation. Be creative and see what happens. Bridge the gap between the program year and summer seasons with various types of resources. Not only to complement something that might already be programmed such as Vacation Bible School, but so they can also draw a connection to your regularly scheduled faith formation programming that starts up after the Summer. Below I’d like to highlight some possibilities to consider during the summer season.
