Christmas, as well as Easter, are very important liturgical dates for the Church. Therefore, several weeks are dedicated to spiritual preparation, to cleanse our hearts and welcome so much grace and blessings that the Lord wishes to pour into our lives.
Advent is the time of the liturgical year in which we Catholics prepare for the birth of our Lord, for Christmas. Even though the streets are filled with lights and people begin to rejoice we must begin to prepare the heart with penance.
Fasting, abstinence, almsgiving, and much prayer will allow us to live the real Christmas and prepare our inner selves. We usually hear a lot of tips during this season to live these special weeks properly, but sometimes they enter us through one ear and come out the other so we must be intentional in what we do to prepare and committed to it.
And how do we prepare? The following are three simple and clear ideas to live these weeks before Christmas. To cleanse our hearts and prepare with love and hope for the birth of our Savior with confession, peace, and charity.
First, confession, to have our hearts clean. It is Christ who wants to be born in our lives. What better that to prepare our spirits to receive Him with a clean and open heart!
