As the winter solstice nears and brings the shortest day of the year, the temperature drops and those without shelter, heat, or nourishment come to the Bethlehem Center for a moment of relief, peace, rest, and comfort. As the dark gray clouds cover the heavens, the shadows of winter bring a reminder that the human suffering will intensify.
Most of us are isolated from the human suffering that exists in our society and in our cities. The innocence of a child lost to experiencing hardship, abuse, hunger, fear, and not knowing or experiencing love and family. They are lost, but not forgotten.
