Institution to the Ministry of Lector/Reader
Diaconate Formation Class #7
With profound jubilation and solemn reverence, the celebration of the Mass was offered by Bishop Joseph this past Saturday to install 15 men as lectors for the Diocese of Fresno. These men and their supporting wives comprise formation class #7 of the Diaconate community. They are currently starting their fourth year of Diaconate formation. By the Grace of God, they will receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders in October of 2025.
During the Rite, each of the humble candidates came forward to Bishop, who gave each of them a bible and declared the following: “Take this book Holy Scripture and be faithful to handing on the word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of His people.”
As a community of faith, let us continue to pray for these Diaconate candidates on their ongoing formation journey. May they be strengthened in their commitment to discern the Lord’s call and work as joyful servants within His most enriching and bountiful vineyard.

Catechetical Ministries in Motion
St. Philips the Apostle, Bakersfield
This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to give a catechist retreat at St. Philips the Apostle in Bakersfield. I want to thank Religious Education Coordinator, Mayela Guerrero, for helping set up this event, Fr. Hector Lopez V.F., for the use of his parish facilities, and of course, the catechists that participated. They were an absolute joy to work with.
The theme, moments of reflection and conversation, along with activities, were based off resources from the USCCB regarding Catechetical Sunday. One of the talks focused on connectedness, realizing and understanding how we are all connected in one way or another in our communities, especially through ministry.
As we serve the community of the faithful, we must strive for unity, teamwork and collaboration. When we encounter difficulties or challenges, we must remind ourselves that we don’t have to face them alone. When we embrace this mentality as a team, it makes everyone’s work so much easier.
