KOFC John Cardinal Newman Council 9445

Fundraiser to Support Food Recovery Network

Knights of Columbus John Cardinal Newman Council 9445 presented a $600.00 check to Dan Griffin of the Food Recovery Network. The Food Recovery Network partners with the Fresno State University Dining Hall, the Food Recovery Program at Fresno Metro Ministry, and the Vineyard Farmers Market. Their intent is to serve 80-90% of the recovered food to needy individuals every Friday evening from 5:30pm to 6:30pm in the Cafeteria of St. Paul Catholic Newman Center.

The John Cardinal Newman Council 9445 held a burrito breakfast fundraiser in November with a portion of the proceeds benefiting this organization. With the great support of the parishioners of St. Paul Catholic Newman Center, we were able to sell 121 burritos to support this organization.

If you would like more information or a way to support the Food Recovery Program, contact the office at St. Paul Catholic Newman Center! If you would like to help and support them, tell them you heard about the Food Recovery Program from the Knights of Columbus Council 9445.

Bringing our Gifts to the King

The Feast Day of the Epiphany of which some also refer to as Three Kings Day is celebrated around the world, mostly in Europe, Spain, and Latin America. “El Dia de los Reyes”, as it’s called in Spanish, marks the glorification of baby Jesus by the Three Wise Men when they paid a visit to Jesus when he was still an infant.

Focusing on that special event in which the Magi offered their gifts to Jesus, let us reflect more upon how we fit into that picture. Let us reflect on the types of gifts that we can offer our savior.

When we look back on that story in Matthew 2:1-12 in the bible we know that the Magi were guided by a star to find the coming savior “…and behold, the star, which they had seen in the east, went on ahead of them until it came to a stop over the place where the Child was to be found. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy."

Imagine the joy the Magi must have felt knowing where it was guiding them to and of the happiness they must have felt when they would be given the opportunity to present their gifts.
