Divine Mercy Sunday

The First Divine Mercy Retreat With Catholic Daughters Court St. John #2526

On Divine Mercy Sunday, we had our first Divine Mercy Retreat. Our Spiritual Advisor Vicente Garza was our Retreatant. We gathered together to spend a quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of our normal lives.

Vicente explained the history of the Divine Mercy and related scripture readings on the Mercy of Our Lord. We listened to John Michael Talbot sing Holy Ground which awakened the Holy Spirit within this writer's soul. Followed was the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

The spiritual event ended with the our Consecration to Our Blessed Mother, the Divine Praises and singing Holy God We Praise Thy Name. There was a boutique and goodies available for purchase. Our Lord gave us a beautiful day for our retreat. We sat under a beautiful tree which gave us shade for comfort. Looking forward to next year.

Our Faith, Our Blessing, Our Commitment...TO BUILD THE HOUSE OF GOD

St. Joseph, Avenal, and St. Cecilia, Kettleman City, CA

Rendered Church Photo.jpeg

St. Joseph & St. Cecilia Catholic Church began in 1941 with less than one hundred households. Today, we have about one thousand families and continue a path of growth. For years we have been planning and fundraising to better serve our increasing number of families and to expand our facilities. Like other Catholic communities in our Diocese, we realize with a larger church and parish facilities, we will be able to accommodate more people in a more safer way with fewer weekend masses.

St. Joseph and St. Cecilia’s is still operating out of the same facilities we initially started with. We have known for years that we are continuously outgrowing our church and parish facilities. To better serve our children, families, people, and community, we need to raise the necessary funding to move forward.

Our challenge is to attain the largest capital goal in St. Joseph and St. Cecilia's parish history: Building a new Church and Parish facilities on our new property, over the next 5 to 10 years.

Catechetical Ministries in Motion

Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Bishop

Not too long ago, I was blessed to be able to travel to our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bishop and give a two-day confirmation retreat to a young group of youth that had been catechized throughout their lives in a small community. A special thank you to Fr. John Gracey and his staff and ministry leadership that made this possible.

Even though the group was small you could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit as we commenced our retreat with an evening of prayer and reflection as we walked the way of the cross with Jesus.
