The Priest Retirement Fund:
Words from Rev. Msgr. Michael R. Braun
On Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18th this year, every parish in the Diocese of Fresno will take up a second collection for the Priests’ Retirement Fund. This collection assists in caring for the retired priests of the diocese and for the retired priests of the religious communities serving in our parishes.
When I was ordained in 1967, I did not expect to one day retire. Most priests passed away before that time arrived. Our monthly income was less than $100.00 a month, so our required contribution to Social Security was never going to be adequate.
Thanks to the late Bishop John Steinbock and due to the efforts of a late classmate, Msgr. Tom Kleinhans, a Retirement Fund was established for the living expenses of priests who would retire, either at 70 or earlier for health reasons.
Unlike most people who purchase a home and build up equity for a future residence, priests of my day could not afford to do so. So upon retirement, we found ourselves facing housing and living expenses we never expected.
This is the reason the Priests Retirement Fund has proven to be so beneficial to me and for the other retired priests of the Diocese.

Day of Giving 2023
With a Full Heart - June 13, 2023
Join us in supporting St. Anthony Retreat and Conference Center in Three Rivers with a Full Heart on our Annual Day of Giving on Tuesday, June 13 - the Feast Day of St. Anthony of Padua.
All who come to the retreat center, whether it be St. Anthony for adults or Santa Teresita for youth, Christ speaks directly to their hearts. When they leave, they leave with a full heart, burning with the love of Christ. Like the disciples, they leave with hearts full of a divine, burning love and re-enter the world to continue their journey.
The Day of Giving is a special time each year where we ask all of our supporters for a little extra help to create an environment for such powerful encounters with Christ.
Watch a special message from Bishop Brennan here!

The Catechetical Corner
Congress Volunteers Wanted!
To be a volunteer means many things to different people. It could be a way to build community, perhaps it's a rewarding experience that helps you feel more connected to God, for some, it can serve as a calling or as a foundation point to help the greater good. Even youth in our confirmation programs are asked to give of their time and talents.
Volunteering your time and talents does take effort, especially when you feel as if you don’t have any time to spare to begin with, but I have discovered that when you really think about how you spend your time throughout a day, a week, a month, or even a whole year you find that you might have more time than you realized.
This coming October 13, 14, and 15 we will once again be blessed to be able to offer our Diocesan Congress. Our Congress is an event and opportunity for formation and gathering for all the faithful across our Diocese and beyond. In the past, many have believed that it is only an event for catechists or ministry leaders but given the diverse topics and sessions that are offered, along with Holy Mass on behalf of our bishop, it is really an opportunity for gathering, formation, and worship for all who wish to attend.
