The Second Collection to Support Catholic Communication Efforts

We Ask For Your Generosity on May 28 - 29, 2022

On May 28th and 29th, the second collection will support Catholic Communication efforts locally and globally. Half of the faithful’s generosity this weekend stays right here in our diocesan Office of Communications. On behalf of me and my staff, I wanted to take this time to thank you and your parish for supporting us as we rebuild our office to better suit the needs of you, your parish and the faithful.

We kindly ask for your prayers and generosity as we continue our ministry. If you have suggestions as to how we can better serve you, please contact us.

Recent Activities of Boy Scout Troop 321

This is a big year for the Troop. Starting Dec 27, 2021, six boys will age out of Boy Scouts when they turn 18. What other ministry captivates and keeps kids involved from age 11-18? So far, the first two boys to age out made it to the rank of Eagle Scout. Dillon did his project building beds for shelter dogs. Victor's project was called Mother Mary's Grotto. Marc built an arbor over a bench at Mooney's Grove Park. Victor completed his Board of Review (like an interview) over zoom, Marc and Dillon were among the first in-person Board of Reviews since everything shut down due to COVID-19.

On Saturday, May 14, six scouts hiked to Topokah Falls (in Sequoia National Park) and along the way encountered some snow!

Catechetical Ministries in Motion

St. John the Evangelist, Wasco

This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending a day with catechists from the parish of St. John the Evangelist in Wasco to provide a catechetical workshop focusing on the Six Tasks of Catechesis as illustrated in the National Directory for Catechesis. Thank you to the Ministry Leadership and Catechists that participated.

To be a catechist with greater effectiveness in parish catechesis programs and processes, the following six catechetical tasks are essential instruction:

1. Knowledge of the Faith – What We Believe

2. Liturgy and Sacraments - How we celebrate

3. Morality - How we live

4. Prayer - How We Pray

5. Education to live in the Christian community - How we live in the community as a      Church

6. Evangelization and Apostolic Life - How We, as Individuals and as a Community,        Live in the Service of the World

Diocesan Synod Update

Accepting Parish Synod Submissions

Your Voice is Important

Parishes throughout our diocese have been hosting listening sessions, and we are excited to receive the first Parish Synod Submissions! We encourage all parishes who have not already done so to begin working on your submission and use the online form provided on our website. The due date is June 1st at 5 pm. After that, the online form will be closed and no other submissions will be accepted, as the Diocesan Synod Committee must read through all submissions and create a summary for Bishop Brennan’s approval before June 30, 2022.

Parishes who were not able to host a listening session, or who wish to provide another opportunity for people to respond can also provide the link for the Synod Individual Response Form. The link is accessible here and can be published in your bulletin or website. There is also a tri-fold flyer available on our website in English and Spanish which has all the Synod information and the link, as well as a QR code. This flyer can be made available to your parishioners to use or to give to friends or family members who might be interested in providing their input.

Remember, this Synod is meant to hear the voice of ALL people, not only those who are present at our listening sessions or sitting in the pews on Sunday. Help us use these last two weeks to reach people who may not be aware that their voices are important!

For more information or questions on the Synod, please contact one of our Committee Members. We invite you to send in pictures or short articles about the Synod in your parish! Post to social media using #synodDOF.
