Diocesan Synod Update

A Synodal Church: Communion,

Participation & Mission

Parishes Begin Listening Sessions

The Diocesan Synod Committee is very excited by the positive response reported from parishes throughout the diocese to implement Listening Sessions. Many are gathering to dialogue, listen to each other’s thoughts and opinions, and more importantly to pray together and ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The Synod is not meant to identify problems or even come up with solutions...but to recognize in each other that we are fellow travelers journeying together. How is this happening today for you? Be sure to check with your parish and inquire about how you can participate. Be sure to regularly check the diocesan Synod website at dioceseoffresno.org/synod as new resources are added.

Jesus on the Trails

Diocesan Youth Organically Encountering God

There are so many parts to a retreat: the introduction, the presentations, activities, confessions, Mass, adoration, praise and worship, and so much more. All of these must come together gracefully; this way a sacred space can be created giving way for an organic encounter with God. I always make it a priority to use every available area to create these spaces and one of my favorites are the trails on campus. With so many beautiful trails, one of the top five things teens always ask us is “when are we going hiking”?

The Catechetical Corner

Prepping our students for Holy Week.

After hopefully leading our students through a prayerful Lent, Palm Sunday is nearly upon us. There are important days to be noted in Holy Week and we don’t want to miss an opportunity to teach them to our students. The ideas and resources we can use for Holy Week are varied and in abundance if we know where to look, they can be from magazines, current religion textbooks, old religion textbooks, and websites. We can also put into practice our own experiences and resources that might already be available to us.
