The Los Angeles Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Business Center, operated by the University of Southern California in partnership with the Los Angeles Mayor's Office of Economic and Business Policy, is currently enrolling local businesses in the USC Bridges to Business Success program. The USC Bridges to Business Success Program has been developed to provide an advanced business procurement training program focused on building the capacity of small business owners. Currently, the Bridges Program is geared toward those in the Construction Industry such as construction contractors, maintenance contractors, plumbers, electricians, etc.)
Fall 2013 Cohort scheduled to begin Saturday, September 21, 2013. The goal of the USC Bridges Program is to provide technical assistance in order to build the capacity of small minority business owners to secure contracting opportunities and create and retain jobs. The USC Bridges Program has been developed as a bundled training consisting of eight modular workshops held consecutively totaling approximately 32 hours in the classroom.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
- Construction Industry (construction contractors, maintenance contractors, plumbers, electricians, etc.)
- Minimum 2 years in operations
- Minority-owned small businesses, especially those who have attempted to apply for procurement contracts in the past
- Small to medium sized businesses, with preference in low-to-moderate income communities
- Established Business Plan preferred
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
As a result of the training, program graduates will: - Complete an 8 week specialized procurement training program to build the capacity of the minority business to become contract-ready and be prepared to secure and manage new contracting opportunities
- Become National Minority Supplier Development Council Certified through the SCMSDC to open doors for contracting opportunities ($350 value paid by Citi)
- Develop a Strategic Procurement Plan that will include targeted goals, contract opportunities, certifications to pursue, and a timeline for implementation
- Improve presentation skills to effectively communicate and present their business at procurement opportunities
- Receive legal advice from an attorney present during the course
- Receive support on business plan development from technical assistance providers
- Attend private business matchmaking events offering actual contracting opportunities
