Produce Plus is Back at
DC Farmers Markets!

Starting June 1st, the Produce Plus Program is back at DC farmers markets! Offered by the D.C. Department of Health, this program provides funding to help families in need have greater access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Any D.C. resident who uses any type of government assistance (see list below) can get $10 in Produce Plus checks (two of the $5 checks pictured above) to spend on fresh produce with participating farmers. All eight of our DC markets offer Produce Plus. This innovative program puts more fresh food on the tables of local families, and more money in the pockets of local farmers. Here's how to take advantage of this great opportunity.

  1. Visit any FRESHFARM Market located within Washington D.C. and go to the market information tent. Our staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions and guide you through the process.
  2. Show your District of Columbia I.D. and proof of participation in any of the following programs: SNAP (EBT/Food Stamps), WIC, CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program/Grocery Plus), TANF (Cash Assistance), SSI, Medicaid, or Medicare.
  3. Our friendly staff or volunteers will ask you a few easy questions, and give you two $5 checks (for a total of $10), and ask you to sign the ledger.
  4. Spend your checks on fresh fruits and vegetables with any authorized farmer (we will point you in the right direction). You can spend one or both of your checks right away, or save them for another time. All Produce Plus checks expire September 30, 2015.
  5. The limit is $10 per household per day. But, you can come back to the same market every week, or visit any other participating market to get the checks the same day.
