FSMA Produce Safety Rule Pre-Harvest Agricultural Water Update Webinars and On-Demand Options

Webinars

Beginning in December 2024, the Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) has been hosting webinars on the revised requirements for Pre-Harvest Agricultural Water (Subpart E) in the FSMA Produce Safety Rule in English and Spanish to ensure past PSA Grower Training (GT) and PSA Train-the-Trainer (TTT) participants understand the new pre-harvest agricultural water requirements. Due to demand, additional webinars have been scheduled through August 2025.

Each webinar contains similar information, so you only need to attend one webinar to get the new information

Each two-hour webinar includes a presentation of the new requirements and compliance dates, and a discussion of new or revised PSA resources. There is time to answer questions, both submitted before the webinar and those that arise during the webinar. Registration is required; there is no cost to attend. Registration for each webinar is limited to the first 500 registrants. A certificate of completion is emailed to webinar participants who attend one full session.

Please make note of your Grower ID / Trainer ID because it is required for webinar registration. This ID is unique to you; please do not share it with others. Emails were sent to all past PSA GT participants on November 7, 2024 and January 23, 2025 and to past PSA TTT participants on January 23, 2025. Check your email on these dates because this email is personalized to each recipient and contains your individual Grower ID or Trainer ID.

Team Updates

The PSA Team is experiencing many changes. We wanted to share the changes since you might notice new people sending and answering emails!

First, Karen Ramirez has joined the PSA Team as the new Extension Aide. She is bilingual (English/Spanish) and has a B.S. in Food Science and Technology. Karen has been with us just over a month and is adjusting well to the crazy pace! Some of you may have already received course evaluations from her or packages from the bookstore. She is a wonderful addition to the PSA Team. We hope you will all give her a warm welcome!

Next, we have finally, officially, hired Bia Alvarez, who has been working with us for almost a year in a temporary position, as our Communication Specialist. Bia is bilingual (English/Portuguese) and has a BFA in Industrial Design. Before joining the PSA, Bia founded and led Tryz Studio for 7 years. She has contributed since the very beginning and no doubt will continue enhance PSA resources and educational materials with her strategic design skills!

Lastly, we want to share the news that Rob Way is retiring! He has been our Communication Specialist, database manager, graphic designer and all-around amazing person for solving almost any problem for 9 years! He delayed his retirement and helped us transition Bia into her new position. Professional and forward thinking always! The PSA Team came together to celebrate Rob and honor his dedication to our team and to all the people we serve. We are very sad to see him go but so very excited for him and all the adventures ahead. Cheers! And thanks for all of your contributions!

Tommy Saunders recently had the opportunity to travel to Dallas, Texas for the AFDO Educational Conference. There he participated in the Produce focus session and presented on “Exploring Sanitizers in the Produce Industry Including Usage and Labels.” The group had a great discussion focused on sanitizer use in post-harvest wash water and participated in a label hunt exercise, using the updated Produce Safety Alliance EPA-Labeled Sanitizers for Produce  web tool. The exercise included navigating a specific sanitizer label, and searching for key information such as EPA registration number, appropriate PPM to monitor and as well as many other factors.
