Parents and Students,

We hope this letter finds you all well. We would like to provide you with two Academic Updates for the week ahead:

First, Monday, April 27th, will be a Professional Development Day for all teachers. There will be no new assignments posted from teachers, and the teachers will not be available during the day. Our AP Science teachers may still use their evening time frame for their hour of review or practice, but that decision is up to them. Students will not have to sign in for attendance on Monday.

Additionally, on Friday, April 23., select ELA and Math teachers will be posting directions for the students to take their 3rd set of Performance Series assessments from their computers at home. Students may start taking their assessments tomorrow if they would like, but we are encouraging students to use the time on Monday with no other assignments to complete these tests.

They will be administered for the following:
Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior ELA Classes
All Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II Classes

The Performance Series Assessment is a baseline test that the schools in the Archdiocese administer three times each year to students. It is used to gather data on student progress and comprehension on certain topics in English/Reading and Mathematics. As you may have seen in our Course Catalog, one way this data is used is to help guide us in ensuring students are in the proper courses and course levels where they will be most successful. For this year, and this test especially, it will be an excellent guide for us to use as a school as we prepare to identify where students in these two subjects currently are during this difficult time, and where we need to begin our instruction at the start of next year to work to ensure that we fill all gaps in learning.

There is no studying or preparing that can be done for this assessment, as the test is unique to each student and their abilities, much like Khan Academy is for the Math classes that utilize it. Teachers will be posting both their directives as to when they expect the online assessment to be completed, along with directions for accessing the assessments on their specific Google Classroom pages on Friday morning.

As the students take these assessments, their teachers will not be able to assist in answering questions about the technology if there is an issue. Should a student experience an issue while taking the assessment, they are to e-mail Mr. Gennaro, at [email protected] , between the hours of 9am and 3pm on Monday, April 27th. An e-mail to a teacher on this matter may go unanswered Monday due to their attending Professional Development.

We thank you for your continued help in working with us and your children during this time.
Sincerely,
Dr. Anchen Schulz, Principal
Mr. William Gennaro, Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs
