CUNY’s Office of Professional Development & Learning (PDL) and the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) have numerous offerings this spring. Read below for more information on courses and how to register.

 

CUNY Training and Courses

Office of Professional Development & Learning (PDL)

The Office of Professional Development & Learning (PDL), offers half and full days sessions ranging from $75 to $300 per person, and require supervisor approval before registering. Visit the Spring 2025 Course Catalog for courses on leadership, stress management, business writing, and other interpersonal skills. Some course topics include: 

  • Business Writing: Clarity Through Critical Thinking 
  • Handling Stress in the Workplace 
  • Expanding Your Learning, Decision-Making, and Communication Potential 

Registering requires supervisor approval. After obtaining approval, complete the Spring 2025 Course Registration Form. Once submitted, you and your supervisor will receive a confirmation email from University.Training@cuny.edu within 7 business days. If you cannot attend a registered session, please inform PDL via email (University.Training@cuny.edu) at least 10 days prior to the scheduled course.    

Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) 

The Spring 2025 DCAS Citywide Course Catalog offers a variety of free and fee-based courses on topics such as cultural awareness and inclusivity, management and supervision, personal development, and technology. Take advantage of the wide variety of offerings that include: 

  • Fundamentals of Supervision 
  • Writing Communications for Government Procurement 
  • Outlook, Word, Excel or PowerPoint for Office 365 
  • Disability Awareness and Etiquette 
  • Initiating and Managing Difficult Conversations 

Before registering, staff must receive approval from their supervisor, then submit the Professional Development Registration Form to University.Training@cuny.edu.  Employees will be notified within 7 business days if confirmed.  Speak to your supervisor and Human Resources as to whether financial support is available through your department, SPH administration, the HEO-CLT Professional Development Fund or other means. 

 

Upcoming Deadlines

June 1, 2025 is the next deadline to apply to the HEO/CLT Professional Development Fund.  For more information, visit HEO - CLT Professional Development.   

 

Skill Building Spotlight: Short on Time 

LinkedIn Learning has 250+ Nano Tips courses that are under 10 minutes and cover critical skills and tools to succeed at work.  Try one of the following or find one suited to your needs.

Building Soft Skills (10m, 2023) focuses on seven soft skills: verbal communication, critical thinking, leadership style, teamwork and collaboration, emotional intelligence, growth mindset, and inspiring creativity and innovation. 

Using ChatGPT for Business (11m, 2023) provides the basics of generative AI and how to apply it to a wide variety of everyday business tasks.   

Resolving Conflict (9m, 2023) shares the secrets of dealing with difficult people using empathy, active listening, and proven techniques for managing interruptions.

Tuition Waiver

As a CUNY employee you are eligible for a Tuition Waiver. Once you satisfy the service requirements specified by your position (see tuition waiver page for details), you are eligible to waive the cost of tuition at any CUNY school, up to a maximum of $5250.00 tax-free, per year. 

LinkedIn Learning Access

Via the New York Public Library (NYPL), access LinkedIn Learning (at no cost), using your NYPL card by clicking here. To apply for a NYPL card, click here.  

Your card is only active for 30 days, and you will need to visit one of NYPL’s open locations to validate your card. For non-NYC residents, bring a copy of your CUNY ID card. Harlem Library is the closest location to SPH offices.

Via CUNY, limited access is available through University Human Resources and Labor Relations (UHR), Professional Development and Learning (PDL), by completing a request form here. Please note PDL has a small number of licenses and access is limited to 3 weeks.
