Welcome back to the fall semester! As our students return to class, it’s also a great time to check in on our own learning. Did you set a professional development goal in your performance evaluation? Check in with your supervisor regarding any goals you set during the last performance evaluation.

DCAS Fall Courses Now Available
|
NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), is offering a wide range of in-person and virtual courses this fall. Subjects include; cultural awareness and inclusivity, management and supervision, personal development, technology, and more.
Before registering, staff must receive approval from their supervisor and then complete and submit the Professional Development Registration Form to University.Training@cuny.edu.
Within seven business days, employees will be notified if confirmed in the course. Some courses are free, others range from $75 to $1000+ for certifications.
Speak to your supervisor and Human Resources as to whether financial support is available through your department, SPH administration, the HEO-CLT Professional Development Fund, or other means.

NYC Commission on Human Rights trainings
|
CUNY’s Professional Development & Learning Office is offering free trainings through the NYC Commission on Human Rights (NYCCHR). The six virtual workshops, held October through January are on a range of topics, including discrimination and bias. To read more about the workshops and register, click here. The first session is Tuesday, October 1st, 2024. Employees will receive a meeting invitation with the link to the workshops the day before the session begins.

Resources for self-care, building resilience, and soft skills
|
The beginning of the fall semester is one of the busiest times of year, and often stressful. This month, we’re providing some resources for self-care, building resilience, and soft skills.
CUNY’s Employee Assistance Program: CCA has free online seminars for CUNY employees, on topics like parenting, aging, mental health, wellness and more. Use “CUNY” for the company code.

- Building Resilience (43m, 2024) helps you build mindsets, skills, and strategies to build your resilience, helping you to turn challenges into opportunities for growth, transformation, and innovation.
- Mindful Communication for Less Conflict and Stronger Relationships (43m, 2024) covers the foundations of mindful communication to speak with greater emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and conflict competence.
- Nano Tips for Building Soft Skills (10m, 2023) gives you quick tips in 10 minutes for honing seven of the most important soft skills for growing professionals.

As a CUNY employee you are eligible for a Tuition Waiver. Once you satisfy the service requirements specified by your position (see tuition waiver page for details), you are eligible to waive the cost of tuition at any CUNY school, up to a maximum of $5250.00 tax-free, per year.

CUNY Professional Development & Learning
|
CUNY offers a variety of virtual and in-person courses at CUNY Central offices. Information on specific sessions, including registration procedures, can be found on the CUNY Professional Development & Learning website. The cost of attending a course ranges from $75 to $275 per person. Speak to your supervisor and Human Resources as to whether financial support is available through your department, SPH administration, the HEO-CLT Professional Development Fund or other means.
