The Power of "Connected" Professional Learning
Lessons from 4 school systems

What ignites student and teacher learning? ERS studied four school systems that have seen student growth,  and have redesigned their professional learning practices to meet college and career ready standards.  In our new report,  Igniting the Learning Engine , we show how these systems tightly "connect" the parts of their professional learning model to each other and to the every day work of teaching.

This implies investing quite differently in PD - moving away from one-off workshops and toward high-quality curriculum, content-focused collaborative planning, and growth-oriented feedback.

NEW TOOL: Professional Learning Self - Assessment
We're looking for users to share feedback

Based on our research with four case study systems, we created a short online self-assessment. School and system leaders can reflect on topics like curriculum, collaboration, and feedback; compare their practices to other systems, and receive a set of tailored next steps.

You can either explore the tool normally, or help us by providing feedback at the end. Users who participate in the beta test can enter to receive an Amazon gift card as thanks.

Case Study of DC Public Schools and PL Toolkit
More resources to help school and system leaders ignite the learning engine

We dive deep into how DC Public Schools provides frequent, growth-oriented feedback as a part of their LEAP model (LEarning together to Advance Our Practice), looking at the role of time, instructional leaders, and shared curricula.

We also gathered a set of resources used by DC Public Schools and all the case study systems on topics like choosing high-quality curricula, supporting collaborative planning time, and engaging in growth-oriented feedback.

What We're Reading: Professional Learning Edition

WHY NOW?
Because our children deserve more than a few great schools.

Ensuring college and career readiness for all students, especially lower-income students and students of color, requires redesigning school systems to enable new ways of organizing schools for student and teacher learning. School System 20/20 is our vision for transforming school systems so every school succeeds for every student, because of the system - not in spite of it.

Education Resource Strategies (ERS is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming how urban school systems organize resources - people, time, and money - so that every school succeeds for every student.
