Message from President

Greetings Soroptimists,

Whats the best thing about Switzerland?

I don't know but their flag is a big plus!

I'm looking forward to a great week ahead getting back into the swing of things. Our Camp Fire ad-hoc committee will hit the ground running with a full agenda meeting tomorrow. We are working on developing some mid-range and long term recovery projects.

Wednesday we have a great program brought to us by our very own Miles. It will be great to have him share his passion and lift us all up.

It looks like we will have a great turnout for Thursday's After Hours at New Earth Market hosted by Cali'flour Foods. The deadline to sign up is today, so please rsvp if you are planning to join us.

Finally, I'm looking for a few great volunteers to work on our nominating committee. It's hard to believe, but it's time to start forming the board for next year. Let me know if you're willing to help.

It's another great week to be a Soroptimist!

With Gratitude,
Soroptimist International of Chico

Personality Assessment

Speaker:  Miles Berdache Lynk

Fellow Soroptimist, Miles Berdache Lynk takes us on a personal journey throughout his Stage Life and 2 Careers to uncover the art of Goal Acquisition.  Weaved with humor and life experience, Miles will focus on how this same simple process can help to achieve any goal - in home, in society, in business.

My parents grew up in the same small town in Iowa, but didn't meet until after the war at a dance. Six weeks later they were married and on their way to LA as my Dad would be a freshman at USC majoring in structural engineering. Their first home was small and shared with his two sisters and brother.  No time for a honeymoon. By the time my older brother and I were born we had move to Pico Rivera, a modest neighborhood 20 miles from LA where my Dad commuted to work for the next 25 years.  When I was in the second grade we moved to Whittier.  My younger sister was born when I was 7.

Whittier was a great place to grow up. We had orange and avocado trees in our large yard and a view of Catalina Island on a clear day. I loved to read, so I loved school. History and social studies were my favorite subjects. In high school I joined a girl's social club, was active in student government and enjoyed singing in a small ensemble that performed in the community. We actually got the opportunity to go to Long Beach State and sing with the Carpenters.  My parents took me to visit college campuses the fall of my junior year and I thought the Chico campus was beautiful, so different from LA. And the best part was that it was 500 miles from home. I was ready for my independence!

Camp Fire Soroptimist Evacuees Roster Update

If you have lost your home in the Camp Fire and have a temporary or new mailing address, please let me know so I can update the roster.  It is important to have all current addresses, phone numbers, emails etc. in our database.

My heart goes out to you all that have lost their homes in this devastated wildfire.

If you have already sent me your new address, thank you!
