Our speaker today was Janet Bartos, Executive Director of Lee County Homeless  Coalition. There are 27 such coalitions in Florida. Their mission is to advocate, educate, and promote awareness of issues and obstacles facing homeless individuals in Lee County through community collaboration collaboration, planning , and implementing solutions. Janet provided us with reasons why people experience loss of housing. She provided us with statistics from 2019 on how many homeless people are in our community. We also learned that so far in 2020 there are 1,000+local children that meet the definition of homeless. Janet provided examples of the types of resources the coalition provides.
What to support the coalition in their upcoming 5K Homeless Hustle Run/Walk? It's March 21st at 8am at Lakes Park. Help raise awareness and help fund the fight against homelessness.
